Fifth Floor Common Room, Tuesday Evening

Once again, there were appetising scents emanating from the fifth-floor common room. Ronan was in another cooking mood. This time, it was the rich and spicy scent of Mexican -- well, technically Tex-Mex -- food, grilling chicken, sweet chilies, and a dash of cumin, with sliced bell peppers and onions in another pan. Ronan was still chopping and preparing, but already on the counter was an array of tortillas, and various moddable toppings that people might wish to put on their fajitas.

"These things happen in a boarding school that only serves lunch. You get a horde of hungry teenagers right about this time every evening. I think they're trying to teach us to fend for ourselves." Z shrugged. "I have a synthetron in my room, but it makes crap fajitas."

"A synthetron?" Ronan asked. "It's... a device of some kind? It creates food?"

Z nodded. "Yeah, some kind of alien technology. My--I guess he's my boss--sent it to me. You punch the buttons and the food pops out."

Ronan blinked. "I can imagine that would come in handy," he said. "Although I think I'd miss the opportunity to cook."

"I can't really cook--never really had access to a kitchen--so it comes in really handy," Z admitted. "Except for that I don't speak the language the manual's in very well, but my roommate's droid fills in the gaps."

"Droid?" Ronan asked. "And I'm pretty good with languages, I might be able to help."

"Did you see Tiger, Stay at the film festival? Artoo, the droid in question, was the tiger. And thanks, but I really need to learn Sirian for my job, so I'm teaching myself. I'm getting better. It's just that it's like Japanese on crack."

"... No? I didn't get to the film festival at all. And that language... actually sounds like a lot of fun."
