Sabriel had made herself a cup of tea (and was a little proud over managing to hit the right buttons on the water heater), and found a book someone had left by someone named Angelica Demesnes. She'd only intended to read a little to see what romance books were like here, but by the fifth page she was deeply absorbed. Barjossakin was so dashing!

Prue was craving some chocolate milk so she headed into the kitchen to make herself one.

"Hey." she said, glancing at Sabriel briefly.

"Hey," Sabriel replied, looking up at Prue. For the first time she didn't sound suspicious when talking to Prue, but amazed. "This book is unbelievable."

"What are you reading?" she asked.

"The Jade Flower by Angelica Demesnes," Sabriel said, holding up the book, while carefully marking her place with her thumb. "It's about ninjas - which I think are some sort of warriors? - and pirates and it's captivating. My world doesn't have anything like this."

"Yeah, ninjas are warriors. The specialize in being sneaky." she said. She finished making her chocolate milk and took a seat on the couch. "I always thought pirates and ninjas were enemies."

"They could be," Sabriel said uncertainly. "Jade and Barjossakin haven't actually met yet. Ooh, that'd be interesting!" She started flipping ahead in the book to see when they'd meet.

"Barjossakin?" asked Prue. "Who names their kid that?"

"Apparently pirates do," Sabriel said. She paused. "Not a normal name where you're from either?"

"Huh," said Sabriel, who had a very common name, yes. "I wonder where the author came up with it then."
