Fourth Floor Common Room, Monday Evening

Marco decided to welcome all the new students in the true Fandom fashion: shock value. So there is an anteater sitting there, watching television. The remote control? Is hidden, as well Marco's clothes because he likes the first Fatal Rock Die Hard and doesn't like running around in underwear. There's also a bowl of popcorn, though any other food would have to be found in the kitchen.

[Open like a common room that is open.]

"Hey Man." Billy waved. "This happens all the time really."

Karal blinked at the odd form of address, but smiled and inclined his head in agreement. "Yes, I am beginning to learn that things I find strange are very common here." He glanced at the creature for a moment. "I do not believe we have met? I am Karal, from Karse."

"Pleased to meet you." Billy nodded. "I'm William, or Billy if you prefer. From...well honestly I'm not sure at this point."

"And you," he replied. "Is it that there is more than one version of the place you are from? A friend," and there was a hint of pinkness around his ears as he said that, "is going from one version of Los Angeles to another next week, so such a thing is not uncommon."

"It's more like I've never really been settled in one place back on my Earth long enough to say I'm from there. Most recently before coming here I lived in a small country in Eastern Europe called Trans-Carpatia."

[identity profile] vkandis-son.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
"So perhaps you are from everywhere, then?" Karal suggested with a small smile. "I believe Europe is another continent, I have seen it on maps, but that name does not sound familiar. What was it like?"

[identity profile] l1ttle-billy.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah that's a pretty good way to put it." Billy smiled. "Yeah Europe's across the ocean from us. And parts of it are really nice. And parts of it are only nice if you're from the right countries."

[identity profile] vkandis-son.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
"Places where if you do not come from there, you do not belong?" he guessed, having a fair bit of familiarity with such places. Until recently, Karse had been one of them.

"Something like that yeah. Also there's always certain countries or cultures that get along with some, and not others. Sadly America's not the most popular country in much of the world."

[identity profile] vkandis-son.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Karal winced. "I know how that feels."

[identity profile] l1ttle-billy.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Your country not the most popular?"

[identity profile] vkandis-son.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
"No, it is not." Karal was lost in memory for a moment, and he rubbed his forehead before waving a hand in dismissal. "But things are changing now, which can only be good." Hopefully.

[identity profile] l1ttle-billy.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
"That is good. Americans have a bit of a reputation for being stupid and arrogant to a lot of people around the world. It makes it hard to travel sometimes."

[identity profile] vkandis-son.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Better than being known for summoning demons and unleashing them on the innocent, but Karal kept the thought to himself. "Everyone I have met from America has been both intelligent and quite kind, so I suspect it is a reputation at least partly undeserved."

[identity profile] l1ttle-billy.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
"There's many Americans that do deserve the reputation, and unfortunately they're some of the loudest. The nicer ones don't tend to make much of a scene, so we don't get noticed. And so far, I can't say I find the folks from your neck of the woods all that bad either."

[identity profile] vkandis-son.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
Karal ducked his head at the compliment. "Thank you," he said, then slanted a grin at Billy. "And you just demonstrated my point, about the Americans who live here at least."

[ooc: stepping out for lunch so AFK for a bit]

[identity profile] l1ttle-billy.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
"Thank you, I try." Billy smirked. "So how long have you been going here?"

[identity profile] vkandis-son.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
"I have been here since the beginning of the last term," he replied. "I very much like it. Have you been here for long?"

[identity profile] l1ttle-billy.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Since last September. Oh lord in a few months it'll be a year. How'd that happen?"

[identity profile] vkandis-son.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
"I would guess that you must enjoy being here, or else the time would not slip by so easily," he said thoughtfully. "I can hardly credit that I've been here as long as I have, nor everything I've seen in such a short time."

[identity profile] l1ttle-billy.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"I guess so." Billy nodded, finding the idea comforting. "It's been a pretty quiet summer really." he said.
