Third Floor Common Room: Afternoon

After waking up way later than she's used to and then going for a quick jog around the island, Mel has ransacked the kitchen grabbing as much junk food as she can before settling down in front of the TV.

As she flicks on the television the first thing she comes across is the SciFi Channel marathon of The Twilight Zone The Dusk Area.

"I'm not sure what's creepier," Mel muttered to herself as she tore into a bag of chips. "That talking puppet or the guy in the suit who just shows up everywhere."

Buffy wandered the floors in search of entertainment.

"Hey, Mel! What'cha doing?"

"Weird TV," Cass said pointing at the television. "For some reason it's all in black and white. How you doing Buff?"

"Must be old then." She dropped down onto the floor. "I'm good. But twitchy. You?"

"Old stuff is in black and white?" Mel asked then shrugged. "Huh. I'm good. What's with the twitching?"

"Uh-huh. They didn't have colour back then, or something." Buffy shrugged back. "Going to Sunnydale soon. So not prepared. Am, like, beating myself up for not going on patrols with you."

"Sunnydale?" Mel said looking shocked. "What? Like... forever? "

Buffy's eyes widened. "Hell, no! I'm coming back for fall! Mom just wanted to see me, and, like, I have to make sure she'll be safe. Dawn says Sunnydale is like Vamps'R'Us with cheese on or whatever."

"You'll be fine," Mel said with a wave of her hand. "It's not like my patrols actually had any vampires. Well, there was that giant snake that one time but other than its just been me talking to people. Besides, you're Buffy. I mean the Buffy."

Buffy gave her a skeptical look.

"What? You're a natural born butt-kicker."

"That's true." Buffy brightened a little. "Yeah! I can totally kick vampire ass!" She jumped on her feet and boxed at the air. "No matter how many of them there are!"

She might have been trying to convince herself by positive thinking there.

"'Atta girl," Mel said with some fist pumps of encouragement. "If you want, I can let you borrow my favorite stake."

Buffy grinned. "No, that's okay. I still have the one you gave me for my birthday! It's a very nice stake."

"So you have everything? Crosses? Holy water? Napalm? Phone number of jealous slayer from the future who will show up at a moments notice if there's vampires about?"

Buffy laughed and punched the air a couple more times. "No on the napalm, yes on everything else."

"See... I'm thinking napalm should totally be apart of the slayer arsenal," Mel said jokingly. "Also? Flesh colored kevlar neckware."

"That would be way useful," Buffy agreed. "Lull vamps into thinking I'm all defenseless and then when they're trying to chew down, I'll just stake them."

"Plus? No hickeys."

Shawn flopped onto one of the sofas, and eyed the puppet. "You decide to go retro today?" he asked.

"Looked kinda creepy so I figured 'What the rut?'" Mel said with a grin. "Have we met? I'm Mel."

"Shawn," he introduced himself in return. "And, I don't think we have."

"So does that make you new or old?" Mel asked. "'Cuz if you're not new you must have been hiding from me."

"... I've been in hiding?" Shawn said carefully. "I'm definitely not new. Been here over a year, already," he added.

"Guess that makes you an old one, too."

"Got me beat," Mel said. "I just came here in January."

"Still, seems a bit crazy I haven't met you yet," Shawn said, slouching back against the cushions. "Gotta work on my social skillz, obviously."

"Well you're not living in a shack and looking like that unibomber guy so I'm giving you points for that."

Shawn chuckled. "I appreciate that," he said. "And hey, at least I know what it is that I need to work on, right?"

"Wearing hoodies and growing facial hair?" Mel teased.

"Yeah. That," Shawn said with a laugh. "'Cept I think Summer would hunt me down with a razor if I ever decided to try that one."

"She might like the grizzly look. Brad Pitt had it for while, right?" Mel pointed out. "Not that it was attractive but there you go."

"Maybe I'll give it a go, for the next week or something," Shawn said. "Just on a trial basis, obviously." Just while Summer was out of town. That worked very well.

"Can you grow a beard that fast?" Mel asked giving him a skeptical look.

"Maybe," Shawn said with a shrug. "Might be my superpower," he pointed out.

"That has to be the most worthless superpower ever," Mel said with a laugh.

Shawn arched an eyebrow with a slight smirk. "Are you dissing my potential superpower?"
