[4th Floor Common Room: Monday afternoon]

Claire did nothing all week, and this was OK by her. She wandered town, she hung out in her room. And quite amazingly, not once did she break a leg or another bone almost die or actually die or have to be rescued or anything.

She could get used to this.

She wasn't so sure she could get used to the smell of smoke that was beginning to permeate her room. So while her roommate was in class, she opened the windows as far as they would go, switched on a fan to get the air circulating, and decamped to the common room, where she was now curled up on the couch, channel surfing for sitcoms and painting her fingernails.

Isabel thought of Maria, Liz and Alex and how they'd been friends for years. "Yeah, sometimes old friends are best."

"Yeah," Claire admitted, unsure. "Sometimes, I guess."

"Well just think of the stories you'll be able to tell him about this place," she smiled. "My brothers didn't believe me about half the stories about here. Then I started sending pictures."

Claire opened her mouth, determined to say something depressing along the lines of how they can't exactly talk any more, but shuts it instead.

"I guess."

That was a non-answer, but Isabel wouldn't push. "I think I'm going to head back to my room and get cleaned up. We just had class in the preserve. It was too hot. It was good to meet you Claire."

"You too, Isabel," Claire said more brightly. "Have a good evening."

And Claie herself had better head back to her own room.
