Cheerleading Practice, Gym, Wednesday Afternoon

Alec was rather quiet as he pulled out the mats and made ready for practice.

"Guys? Rikku's got something to tell the group, so listen up."

Rikku was sitting in the bleachers, a small gray cat on her lap. She took a deep breath and looked around the group, expression carefully blank. "I, uh, I told Professor Skywalker I'd tell you guys, since ... yeah. It involves one of us, although if you're kinda new you wouldn't know him."

"Hamlet was a student here, and he was in cheer for ... actually I don't know how long. Alec?" She shrugged. "He, uh, he was here way before I got here. Oh. I'm his little sister, like, the Fandom type, not the relative kind. That's how I found out."

"I'm telling this all wrong." She shook her head. "I'm sorry, I'm still kinda reeling. Hamlet went home last week and he was going to avenge his dad, 'cause his uncle killed his dad and did other bad things like that. He wouldn't let anyone go with him, he said it was something he had to do."

"He, uh, he did it, I mean, he got his uncle and all that. But he also ... there was poison. On the blades. He's ..." Deep breath. "He's dead."

Rikku spent a long moment carefully petting the cat and not looking up. "I don't know if any of you were close or anything, I just ... he was one of us, so I thought you guys would want to know. I'm sorry that ... I think I'm just sorry. And, uh, I'm not sure I'm gonna be practicing today."

She closed her eyes. "That's ... that's all."

Alec nodded to Rikku and looked at the rest of the group. "Hamlet was one of the first cheerleaders here at Fandom High and, even though he graduated last May, he was a good guy and one of ours. Even if he wasn't the most cheerful of cheerleaders, he didn't let that stop him from showing some school spirit by showing up and being a part of things.

"If you want, you can still warm up and get a bit of practice in, but if you need to have some time to think and remember our fellow cheerleader, feel free to do that instead."

Chad was used to people he was close to dying; it was practically just...how things were for him. But he could tell that wasn't exactly the case for Rikku, so he came up after her announcement with a sad expression and a silent offer of a hug if she wanted it. He did give good hugs, after all...

Rikku tried not to sniffle as she stood up and shifted the Judekitty a little to the side so he didn't get squashed. Because she had a tendency to squeeze lately when she hugged. "Thanks," she said softly. "'S not supposed to happen here, you know?"

"Didn't happen here, though," Chad said, but, knowing that clarification didn't exactly help, he added, "But he got what he needed done done, yeah? At least there's that."

It was times like this where Chad almost wished he wasn't so...used to stuff like this. He felt like people would think he didn't care by being so...accepting. But death, for him, was just a part of life...

Rikku shook her head. "I mean ... your world. Spira it's ... everybody, all the time. Here it's nobody. I ... I thought it was, anyway, and I know how stupid that is, I just ..." She made a face and was promptly mrrred at. "Oh," she said. "And Jude's a cat again."

Just in case Chad ... wanted to know, or something. Hey, she was having a crappy week, she wasn't all that coherent.

Lana went pale and she felt like maybe she should sit down before she fell down. This... he... Hamlet was dead?

Phoebe had come to practice with the squad and hang out as usual, but when she heard about Hamlet... she let herself drop to the floor.

Ami had not known Hamlet very well, but a death was still a death, and her hand flew to her mouth to stifle a gasp when she heard Rikku's news.
