Slumped comfortably on the couch, A.J. sat sketching, with a very untouched sandwich sitting on a plate on the nearby endtable. He was working on a new piece of abstract art and ended up getting rather engrossed in it. To a point where he not only forgot about the sandwich, but he was also forgetting about where he was, what he was doing, what it was about. Entirely caught up in the moment. He loved when the art took on a force of its own and simply seemed to be using him and his pencils as a channel for giving them life....

"Huh?" A.J. said again, then blinked hard, shaking his head. "Aw, no, it's cool." He let out a soft laugh. "Probably a good thing you did; I got kinda lost there..."

"You an artist?" Peter asked, gesturing towards his work.

"Kinda, yeah," A.J. smiled a little shyly as he moved the sketchbook in case Peter wanted to get a better work. "Not much, just...I like it, you know. Keeps me going."

"Looks good," Peter said, with approval. "I wish I had half your talent. Best I can do is stick figures."

"Some of the best art is done with stick figures," A.J. told him with a slight grin, and let out a small laugh. "I don't know if it's talent, though, so much as it is luck."

"You're lucky to be talented?" Peter replied.

"Not what I meant," A.J. said, giving Peter a sharp look that was ruined utterly by the grin he was failing to control.

Peter grinned back. "Still true."

A.J. rolled his eyes jokingly. "Everyone's a critic."

"I'm just envious," Peter said. "Which I bet you anything they'll take out of context when they mention this on the radio."

"Mention it on the radio?"

No one had told A.J. about radio yet. He was completely unaware. It was probably better this way. And Peter would be forever to blame for this corruption.

"The island has its own radio station," Peter said. "The reporters can get a little creative."

Peter decided to leave off the part about the squirrels.

"I...did not know this. I....might have to give it a look."

A.J.'s head tilted. "Errr, a listen."

"You can download podcasts as well," Peter said. "If you want to hear some of the earlier ones."

"....Do I want to know what a podcast is?" A.J. asked worriedly. It sounded way too science-fiction, body-snatching-ish for him.

"It's a recording you can get on your computer," Peter said.

"I...don't have a computer," A.J. frowned a little. "Could never really afford one."

"There's a computer lab," Peter said. "Pretty sure anyone could use 'em."

A.J. snorted a laugh. "I totally need to explore this place more. So much I don't know about..." And then his head tilted. "Come to think of it, I'm not sure if I know you either..." He offered a hand. "I'm A.J."

"Peter Petrelli," Peter replied, shaking his hand in return. "Good to meet you."

"Same," A.J. grinned and then, folding his hands in front of him on his sketchbook very contritely, asks, "So, where you from? What's your favorite color? And other small talk questions of the sort?"

"New York City, blue, I live just down the hall, came to Fandom because I want to learn how to help people," Peter replied. "How'd I do?"

A.J. applauded. "I'd give you a standing ovation, but I'm really comfortable right here." To emphasize this, he squirmed a little in his seat. "...Can I ask what year? I'm from Jersey, so we're pretty close, distance wise, I'm supposedly from a little more than a decade ago, so that kind of puts a damper on things."

"2007," Peter said. "And that would explain some of your confusion. I'm no expert but if you ever need a hand on the culture shock just let me know."

"I'll keep that in mind," A.J. nodded, looking very, very grateful. "It isn't all that different, until someone starts talking about stuff that sounds like complete gibberish to me. iPod, podcast, Wiiiiiiiiiiii...."
