Fourth Floor Common Room; Wednesday Evening.

Slumped comfortably on the couch, A.J. sat sketching, with a very untouched sandwich sitting on a plate on the nearby endtable. He was working on a new piece of abstract art and ended up getting rather engrossed in it. To a point where he not only forgot about the sandwich, but he was also forgetting about where he was, what he was doing, what it was about. Entirely caught up in the moment. He loved when the art took on a force of its own and simply seemed to be using him and his pencils as a channel for giving them life....

[[ open, of course, as common rooms are, yay! ]]

"However did you guess?" asked Anne, an eager flush coloring her pale cheeks. "I do love words. I've often felt, in the moments that simply try the soul, that words can be my very best friends."

"It is like second nature to me," replied Anne, slightly self-conscious now, and pleased at the compliment. "Sometimes just the sound of certain words or phrases is comforting. Have you ever felt that way about your art?"

"You do understand! Oh, I'm so glad!" exulted Anne, a brilliant smile lighting up her features. "I thought I might sense a kindred spirit in you, A.J."

"I'm so pleased to know it!" said Anne merrily. "Words may be a place of solace, but so is knowing that even though I'm so far -- and long -- away from home, someone understands me."

"It has been difficult, but I'm coping somehow," Anne assured him. "I can't decide whether it's more intimidating than it is fascinating, honestly; in some ways it really is like being in a completely different world."

It might be best if no one explained the concept of different dimensions to her.

"I'll be certain to, thank you," promised Anne. "And, well, every really good story has to have something intimidating in it, doesn't it? You just can't appreciate it quite as much without that bit of thrill, I've always thought. Only it's different somehow, when it's actually happening to you."

"You really do understand! You really are a kindred spirit," sighed Anne rapturously. "I'm afraid I can't ever call you my bosom friend as Diana Barry is that already, but I think we'll get along just fine."

Anne's smile grew wistful. "I do, very much. I imagine she'd be overwhelmed even more than I was, if she were to visit, though."

"She's led a rather sheltered life compared to mine," Anne explained, her tone delicate so as to imply no undue slight to Diana's upbringing. "And so she never had to get by on her imagination as often as I have."
