Gym, Cheerleading Tryouts, Saturday Afternoon

Alec went down the gym and set up a table with some chairs for the judges, then pulled the mats out in front of it. Things felt kind of quiet, so he was wondering if he should do something to make sure people showed up.

Maybe he should be shirtless?

...Okay then!

[OOC: Wait for OCD is up! The tryouts are just for Saturday, but the post is in SP until Monday due to the Potterdammerung.

Past Tryout Examples and please be as descriptive as possible.]

Seely took one look at Alec, then started pulling his shirt off.

Rikku, appreciating the view and wondering if they shouldn't get another mutiny going

River is an owl. That's no reason to miss cheerleading tryouts.

Just because she had a boyfriend didn't mean she couldn't appreciate the view. And she did. Very much so.

She'd probably be able to pay attention when it was time to rate the tryouts.

Mikey was here, and he was bouncing about nearly as much as the potential cheerleaders were bound to be doing.

After all, he had never really been to one of these.

Rogue was there.

On time and everything.

No, really - even though her player was AFK all day, oops.

"We're gonna wiiin, we're gonna wiin!" Robin chanted in a sing-song tone, working the rhythm in with the stomping and clapping of a certain classic rock song. Of course since he was so little he wasn't making a lot of noise with those stomp-claps, but he was definately enthusiastic.

"Wee, will, wee will rock you!
We will, we will, rock- *stomp*stomp*clap*!

Gremlins we're the ones,
Make a big noise with me,
On the court gonna prove it to you all today!

We've got fire in our game,
You'll go down in flames,
The world is never gonna be the same!

We will, we will, rock you! *clap*stompstomp*CLAP*
We will, we will, rock you!"

Dean? Was so going to get Alec back for this somehow. He was wearing the cheerleader uniform that Molly had given him for his lessons back during Ethics so he supposed he looked the part at least. He was just glad that Sammy hadn't got wind of this and so wasn't present to heckle him.

Stepping forward, Dean clapped out a rhythm long enough for the audience to pick it up, then started with his improvised cheer, accompanying it with some of the arm movements and poses Molly had taught him:

"Gremlins, gremlins,
Fight true and just
Kick ass, take names,
Watch them eat our dust!
"

His voice took on more of a sing song quality as he continued:

"Are you ready, Are you ready for this
Are you hanging on the edge of your seat
Out of the doorway the bullets rip
To the sound of the beat

Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
And another one gone, and another one gone
Another one bites the dust
Hey, we're gonna get you too
Another one bites the dust

Go Gremlins!
"

If there was one thing John could do, it was charm people. He stood at attention, smiling his most charming smile at the judges. Hey, just because he was trying out on a dare didn't mean he wanted to look like a fool, so he performed a cheer just like he'd seen it done on TV.

"Ready? OK! *clap*
R-O-W-D-I-E
That's the way we spell rowdie,
ROWDIE *clap*
Let's get rowdie!"
As he said those three words, John made a fist with his right hand, moving it from his left shoulder into an air punch, like Molly had shown him a few weeks back.
"Woot! Go Gremlins!"
He finished his cheer with a spread eagle jump, smile never leaving his face.

Claire had decided pretty much at the last minute that she was going to try out after all, but that didn't mean she was late. Instead she just came out last, having cheered on everyone else's try-out.

"G-R-E-M-L-I-N-S Gremlins!
G-R-E-M-L-I-N-S Gremlins!
"

Despite the last minute effort, cheerleading was about the only thing Claire knew she was good at, so within seconds she was lost in the cheer and the accompanying movements, relaxed and confident and grinning widely at the judges and the audience.

"Let's go! Keep moving!
We're better than the rest!
Keep it up, get going,
We know it, we're the best!

"Gooooooo Gremlins!"

And she finished with a high leap, flushed more from enthusiasm than actual effort

Bart's tryout was completely last minute as he was distracted by... something. Most likely a book about a wizard.

He had no actual skill with cheering other than way too much enthusiasm and a love from pom-poms that none could match. Look at the pom-poms shake!

G-R-E-M-L-I-N-S!
G-R-E-M-L-I-N-S!
Gremlins are the very best
Gremlins are the very best
Gremlins have the might to fight
Gremlins have the might to fight
So what ya gonna do tonight?
What ya gonna do tonight?
Say uh, get down, uh uh get down
Say uh, get down, uh uh get down!

More shaking of pom-poms and jumping about like a spazz followed the cheer, like you do.

[identity profile] blackmagic-eve.livejournal.com 2007-07-23 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Eve was trying out again, because honestly? She was a persistent little thing.

"Working for a victory
Striving for a win
Reaching for the top
The Gremlins can't be stopped!
We never give up, We never give in
We'll fight till the end
Fandom High is here to win!"

The entirety of this was filled with enough enthusiasm for half a dozen cheerleaders, as was the jump she ended with.

Re: Tumbling

[identity profile] robinthefrog.livejournal.com 2007-07-21 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Robin's tumbling still conisted mainly of hopping, but now it was more elaborate, such as hopping high enough to grab hold of the rim of the basketball hoop, swing around, and land in the free throw zone.

Okay ouch. He wasn't gonna do that without serious warm ups again any time soon.

Re: Tumbling

[identity profile] missed-the-gate.livejournal.com 2007-07-22 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
John did a lot of stretching before his turn at tumbling. During which he grinned at the judges and proceeded to walk on his hands, shirt gathering at his chin, as that was the only tumbling he knew how to do.

John hoped no one was filming this for Molly.

Re: Tumbling

[identity profile] saltandammo.livejournal.com 2007-07-22 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Dean found himself actually grateful for the routine Molly had taught him in Ethics because without it, he'd have had no idea what to do and would quite probably have made a bigger fool of himself trying to come up with something on his own.

As it was, remembering how the routine went and concentrating on performing it in a way that wouldn't make him look like a lame duck with no sense of coordination was enough to make him stop worrying about it all and just do it.

He might have actually looked like he knew what he was doing.

Re: Tumbling

[identity profile] savedfornow.livejournal.com 2007-07-23 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Claire just recycled a routine from the Wildcats, but she figured that as she'd help work it out with Jackie, it wasn't exactly stealing. It was complicated and showy, but incorporated a wide range of moves from handsprings to pikes. But she knew it, that was important, and was immersed in it quickly, smiling the whole time.

In its original form the routine finished with a partner stunt, but instead Claire threw in a toe touch, landing well, and almost laughing from enjoyment.

Re: Tumbling

[identity profile] fastestkidalive.livejournal.com 2007-07-23 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
It wasn't so much skilled hopping around and jumping a lot, as it was really fast and really energetic. He could do this for minutes HOURS.

Before getting bored and wandering away.

Re: Tumbling

[identity profile] blackmagic-eve.livejournal.com 2007-07-23 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Eve took her position, took a breath, and launched into her routine.

Cartwheel, backflip, backflip, another cartwheel, flip forward, down into a forward roll, ending in the splits in front of the judges' table.

"Name's Eve Levine," she said, barely out of breath.

Re: Pre-Try Out

[identity profile] robinthefrog.livejournal.com 2007-07-21 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Robin, wasn't so sure about this. Sure it looked like a lot of fun, and he wanted to get involved with stuff, but last time this hadn't worked out so well. Also he wasn't sure if this would mean he couldn't audition for the play.

Re: Audience

[identity profile] missed-the-gate.livejournal.com 2007-07-21 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
John showed up to watch try-outs since he'd missed out on that ogling opportunity last session.

Re: Audience

[identity profile] moonbrain-tam.livejournal.com 2007-07-21 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Why was John just watching the tryouts? He'd make a good cheerleader. Of course, trying to communicate this as an owl involved flapping of wings and hooting.

Re: Audience

[identity profile] missed-the-gate.livejournal.com 2007-07-21 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
John eyed the owl, wondering why it was flapping its wings and hooting in his general direction.

Re: Audience

[identity profile] moonbrain-tam.livejournal.com 2007-07-21 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Obviously he didn't get her message. River flew over and attempted to take a seat on John's shoulder.

Re: Audience

[identity profile] missed-the-gate.livejournal.com 2007-07-21 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
As the owl took a seat on John's shoulder he really hoped its claws weren't going to cause him any permanent damage.

"Uh, hey there, buddy," John addressed the owl. "Is there a reason you chose me and not one of those guys over there?"

Re: Audience

[identity profile] moonbrain-tam.livejournal.com 2007-07-21 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
There was hooting again, meaning Because they're already cheerleaders and your not, but that probably didn't come across. Then there was more flapping of wings and moving of head towards the try-outs.

Re: Audience

[identity profile] missed-the-gate.livejournal.com 2007-07-21 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
John was a little disturbed by the nodding toward the cheerleaders. It was as though the owl knew of his earlier phone conversation (http://ltcolkirk.livejournal.com/9282.html) when Molly had dared him to try out.

Re: Audience

[identity profile] moonbrain-tam.livejournal.com 2007-07-21 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course the owl did! But only because it was psychic. Bouncing a little on John's shoulder, River hooted into his ear to mimic a phone conversation. She may also have tried to pull his hair a little, as encouragement.

Re: Audience

[identity profile] missed-the-gate.livejournal.com 2007-07-21 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not the hair!" John stood and reached to protect his hair from the owl. "I'm going, I'm going!" he said, heading to sign in for tryouts. He wasn't one to back out of a dare after all. He just wanted someone else to go first.

Re: Audience

[identity profile] moonbrain-tam.livejournal.com 2007-07-21 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Pleased that John had finally got the message, River flew off and took a seat on the judges' table. Buffy should be proud of her.
