Third Floor Common Room, Wednesday Evening

Z was cooking. This was not, as some might have thought, cause for alarm. Z was actually quite a good cook at the few dishes she knew how to make without burning, and it was one of these she was turning her hand to tonight: fish tacos. And she had plenty of them, along with all the usual dressings for fish tacos, as it was only polite to feed everyone else, too.

((Open! Free food!))

Faile had spent the time since she'd arrived getting to know the layout of the island. This left her having met very few people. She decided to change that. Which is why she was wandering into a common room not her own.

"Hello," she said with a friendly grin.

[identity profile] falcon-or-blade.livejournal.com 2007-07-25 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"Fish I am familiar with," Faile said, "but could you please explain taco?"

[identity profile] falcon-or-blade.livejournal.com 2007-07-25 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Faile shook her head, eyes on the taco to try and guess what a tortilla was. "No, my world is very different from this one." She looked back at Z and grinned. "I am called Faile. If the offer is still open, I would like to try a fish taco."

"Nice to meet you too, Z'delgado. Thank you." Faile thought for a moment about descriptive food names. "I'm not sure if it is what I'm thinking it is, but please, fix it how you would eat it and I will try it that way," she said with a smile.

"Just Z?" That might be the oddest name Faile had heard yet. "It is nice to meet you, Z," she corrected herself as she accepted the taco. "Thank you. I am from the country of Saldaea in the Westlands of my world. I have been assured that it is not a part of this world at all."

[identity profile] falcon-or-blade.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
"Do they offer a geography class here?" Faile asked. "That would be very helpful."

Chad lifted a hand in a wave when he spotted his little sister (once removed). "Hey, Faile," he said, "how've you been?"

[identity profile] falcon-or-blade.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Faile smiled and waved back. "I have been good, Yasutora. I'm trying to meet more people. How have you been?"

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Chad grinned. He couldn't help it; he was glad she decided to call him that. "Good. Went to the beach today, which was nice. You had much of a change to get to the beach?"

[identity profile] falcon-or-blade.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
"No," said Faile with a shake of her head. "Not much. I've spent most of my time in the preserve since that is where I arrived here."

Faile had never heard of sunbathing or swimming for fun. She just assumed that Chad had somehow heard of her habit of wandering around the island.

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
"The preserve?" Chad asked, tilting his head a little. "There something about the preserve you like?"

[identity profile] falcon-or-blade.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm keeping an eye out for whatever brought me here," she explained. "Not that it isn't nice here, but I would like to eventually go home."

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Chad gave a soft grunt in agreement. "I can understand that," he said, thinking that whatever it might have been, it was probably a heck of a lot harder for Faile to get home than it was for him. He'd have to remember that the next time he felt like bitching about not having enough money for a flight or even a train.

[identity profile] falcon-or-blade.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
"What did you do at the beach today?" Faile asked curiously.

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Went with Annette....you met her yet?...'cause she was kind of bored," Chad told her. "Our kitties had a playdate, an' we practise football, and went swimming. Not much, but it was fun. Maybe we should go some time."

[identity profile] falcon-or-blade.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
"I have not met Annette yet," Faile said. "You go to the beach to relax? That sounds like it would be interesting. I've never done that before."

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
"What else would you go to the beach for?"

[identity profile] falcon-or-blade.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"The only time I was ever on a beach was when the boat on which I was a passenger couldn't tie up at the docks," Faile responded. "I don't know if there is anyone where I'm from who go to the beach just for pleasure."

The sweet smell of someone else cooking food drew Johnny down to the common room, and the sight of seeing so much food set out prompted him to chat with the chef.

"That smells good. Whatcha cookin'?" he asked.

[identity profile] flamingbonehead.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
" 'D love one," said Johnny, already getting a plate and cutlery set ready to put the food on. "Haven't had tacos in ages."

[identity profile] flamingbonehead.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Johnny grabbed a tortilla, and started eagerly heaping in fish and tomatoes and other garnishes.

"This is great. Usually I've just had greasy take-out tacos." He smiled at Z. " 'M Johnny Blaze, by the way. Don't think I've met you yet."

[identity profile] flamingbonehead.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
"Nah, mostly greasy dinners in backwater towns. Even I got enough taste not to eat at Taco Bell." Upon hearing Z's name, he looked over at her. "Oh, you're Z. Luke mentioned you yesterday."

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Chad was on his way back to his room when he was distracted by the combined forces of food and people. He poked his head into the common room and then tilted his head at what he saw.

"Are those...fish tacos?"

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Chad arched an eyebrow at Z from behind his hair. "Did you really think just one would be enough to feed me?" he asked. "I never...had one with fish before." He checked the table. Yup. Tabasco. GOOOOOOOOD. He might need more tomatoes, though. Mmmm, tomatoes. He considered skipping the tacos and just having some of those.

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
But they were so gooooood!

"Need any help?" Chad offered, because tacos should be a thing where everyone got involved in making them. "We always just did beef or chicken. Lots of chicken, back in Mexico..." After a moment, after picking out a tomato, he commented, "I should have thought to make these in Japan. Always lots of fish available there."

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
"Sounds like a good deal," Chad nodded, and got out a knife to help with just that. And eating little bits of tomato when Z wasn't looking. "I think you need more tomatoes," he offered.

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
But...but....!

"Awww...." Chad pouted a little, but it passed quickly. "Any onions?"

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
Leave it to Chad to frown at that and ask, "Have they been mean to you, Z?"
