3rd Floor Common Room Thursday Night [9-6-07]

Lana decided she needed to get out of her room and be more sociable than she had been. And what better way to do that than common room food sharing? Which was why she was cooking up spaghetti sauce and garlic bread and getting ready to make a whole lot of pasta. There was salad and fresh fruit for those looking for something a little lighter. She hummed quietly to herself as she worked, enjoying the whole process.

[Open with free food for all]

At least he had the grace to look penitent about the mess, elsewise Anne might have had to turn up her shapely little nose at him. "I guessed as much from your enthusiasm," she said merrily, helping herself to a plate. "How are you this fine evening?"

"Very full," Chris admitted, pushing his plate aside. "That's actually my second helping. How are you? How did your other classes go?"

"That's the odd thing, I've only had the two on Monday, and the rest of my week is free." Anne frowned a little as she applied herself to twirling a meticulous forkful of spaghetti. "There's only so much I can study my Latin and Greek before even my eyes start to cross, but without anything to do I feel positively slothful."

"What other class are you taking?" Chris asked. "And you could always get a job in town somewhere to keep you occupied. I think the bookstore where I worked is hiring."

[identity profile] ladycfitzgerald.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh! I am working there now, actually," Anne said eagerly. "I start on Sunday. I don't suppose -- well, it's not too much to hope that you like books as much as I do, is it?"

[identity profile] neurotic-witch.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
"I like to read," Chris nodded. "Especially old books."

And magic books, but he wasn't going to mention that.

[identity profile] ladycfitzgerald.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
"How old?" Anne's face was alight with curiosity and enthusiasm by now. "What sorts of old books? Do you like poetry, by any chance? Epic tales?"

[identity profile] neurotic-witch.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
"As old as I can find," Chris said. "I haven't read a lot of poetry," he admitted. "But I like things that rhyme. I have an old book that's been in my family for generations. I can show you sometime, if you like."

Of course that meant telling her the truth about his family. But if she'd been in Fandom since July, maybe it wouldn't freak her out too bad.

"An heirloom book? How romantic," breathed Anne. "I haven't a thing passed down to me from my parents, although I wish I did. But to have a book handed down from generation to generation! I would love to see it sometime, if it isn't an imposition on you."

She brightened and, evidently feeling the need to extend some sort of thanks for what she considered to be his very generous offer, added, "I shall have to do something for you in return."

[identity profile] neurotic-witch.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
"No you don't," Chris said. "But I wouldn't mind showing you sometime. It's one of the few ties I have to my parents."

[identity profile] ladycfitzgerald.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
"I do envy you that, I must admit," Anne told him. "But I've made up my mind to do something for you, as I haven't anything of the kind that I can show you in return. Although I'm not sure what."

[identity profile] neurotic-witch.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Chris smiled. "Well, I'm sure that I'll enjoy whatever you decide."

[identity profile] ladycfitzgerald.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
"Then I'll surprise you." Anne's active mind was already concocting three or four schemes of an impractically grandiose nature, all of which would inevitably have to be brutally pared down before they were feasible. "Perhaps sometime this weekend?"

[identity profile] neurotic-witch.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
"Okay," Chris agreed, having absolutely no idea what he was in for. "I should be around. I'm in 306, stop by whenever."

[identity profile] ladycfitzgerald.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
"I will," promised Anne. "Meantime, I think I'm going to enjoy this -- what do you call it?"

[identity profile] neurotic-witch.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
"Spaghetti," Chris said. "And it's very enjoyable."

[identity profile] ladycfitzgerald.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
"Spaghetti." Anne echoed the word in such a way that she seemed to be testing the feel of the word. "I do love a food that sounds like its name."

[identity profile] neurotic-witch.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Chris smiled. "There's a lot of really good food in this century," he told her. "Have you had ice cream yet?"

[identity profile] ladycfitzgerald.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, I love ice cream, although I haven't had any here yet!" Anne set her plate down for a moment and smiled brightly at him. "Of course, it was awfully hard to come by living in orphanages and all, so the first time I had ice cream was when I was eleven, at the Sunday school picnic in Avonlea. I have such fond memories of it, because you see, that was when I first met my bosom friend Diana Barry."

[identity profile] neurotic-witch.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Her bosom friend???

Chris gulped. "Well, um... there's a store in town where you can get ice cream. Maybe we can go sometime."

[identity profile] ladycfitzgerald.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
Anne was, of course, perfectly oblivious to the gulping and any internal flailing that Chris might be doing. "That sounds delightful. You really are much nicer than Charlie Sloane and Moody Spurgeon MacPherson," she informed him. "None of them would ever offer to do anything like that."

[identity profile] neurotic-witch.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
"I take it they weren't bosom friends?" Chris asked, the words slipping out before he could stop them.

[identity profile] ladycfitzgerald.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, no, nothing of the sort," Anne said hastily. "Not to me, anyhow. And . . . not to each other, either, I don't think. Bosom friends are really hard to come by."

[identity profile] neurotic-witch.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 10:39 am (UTC)(link)
Chris was in no way blushing or flailing.

Not at all.

Really.

"Yeah, I, uh... guess they would be," he finally said. "Have you, um... found one since you've been here?"

[identity profile] ladycfitzgerald.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"What? Oh, no, I couldn't -- that would be dreadful," gasped Anne, the color draining from her face at the mere mention of such a thing.
