Third Floor Common Room: Late evening

For once Mel actually skipped patrolling and just went straight for the junkfood binge and decided to have it right in the common room where she could watch cheezy science fiction movies.

It was as if he felt the call of the cheesy sci fi from the fifth floor...

"Hey, Mel. What're we watching?" John asked, plopping down into a chair.

"Some guy in a giant lizard costume in a kind of a lagoon," Mel said stuffing a twinkie into her mouth. "Have no idea what it is though."

John cocked his head at the screen, "Yeah, that's a great costume. I bet there's some good acting in this movie."

"Please. The damsel keeps doing stupid stuff that should get her killed and that guy with the big chin and open shirt to the navel keeps saving her while gritting his teeth," Mel said rolling her eyes. "It's comical!"

John chuckled, "Gotta love the bad sci fi. I'm particularly fond of the one with the giant snake that bites people's heads off while they're on amusement park rides."

"Okay... What movie is that because I have to see it!"

"I think it's called Mega Snake Giant Snake," he informed her. "Really original title, I know."

"Well at least you know what you're getting," Mel replied. "No false advertising."

"Who's winning?" Dawn asked, as soon as she saw what was on television.

"The lizard thing has killed two people and is still alive," Mel replied. "I think the monster is ahead. They should just stab it."

"No, too easy, the movie'd be over," Dawn stole a twinkie, then bit into it. "Besides, you can cheer for the lizard thing, since it's a movie."

"I won't lose my slayer card for rooting for the monster? Hooray," Mel said throwing a (wrapped) twinkie at her watcher. "So how've you been Summers? I don't think we've talked since I was a bird and you tried to kill me."

"Did I say I was sorry for that? Because I am," she asked from around a mouthful of twinkie.

"Meh. No big deal. Big freaky bird flew into my room and it was acting weird I'd throw something at it too."

"How'd you get all unbirded?"

"I just in my room one day and the next thing I know I'm human again," Mel said with a shrug. "I've heard about it happening to other people so I just assumed it was a normal thing around here."

"Sounds like what happened to Dean when he got de-wolfed," she agreed. "You okay? Must have been strange to be a bird."

Not that she was planning to write it up in her unofficial Watcher's journal journal or anything.

"Strange yes. First of all I had this huge problems with windows and it really pissed me off all the time," Mel grumbled. "I'm not even going into the strange food cravings."

"What kind of window problems? I think I'm okay with that," she decided, grabbing a potato chip and a square of chocolate and eating them together. "Anything else new and exciting?"

"Well I kept forgetting that the glass was actually in the window," Mel said absently rubbing her head at the memory. "So I kept bonking against the window. Other than that it's been pretty normal. I smacked Zuko around for trying to fight Umbridge, I have to act like a mime in order to stop Jim from pretending to be a vampire and I fell asleep in class today."

"Zuko tried to fight her too?" Dawn rolled her eyes, conveniently forgetting or ignoring that she'd gone into the hose-beast's office on her own even after they'd known what was going on. "What class, and wait, go back to Jim being a vampire and the mime part?"

"Jim keeps following me around on patrol and keeps saying he's a vampire and that I'm his arch-nemesis," Mel said rolling her eyes. "He promised he'd stop if I'd go around as a mime for a day."

"Evil," she decided immediately. "Did you check for horns?"

"No," Mel said shaking his head. "He'd come up with something ridiculous to say or he'd claim he's a devil vampire who cut off his horns to fit in or something."

"No such thing as devil vampires," she pointed out, "but I see your point. Why a mime?"

"Mostly to humiliate me, I imagine," Mel groaned. "Because that's just wrong."

"It's evil," she repeated, then winced. "Do you have to do the face paint?"

"Everything."

Of course Dawn wasn't trying to figure out how to get her hands on a videocamera. Really. "Wow, that sucks. You gonna retaliate?"

"Of course. Just not sure how yet," Mel grumbled. "I could just stake him and claim ignorance."

She shook her head quickly. "Don't do that. It's a big thing that you don't want to deal with."

"I could stake him in the shoulder?" Mel suggested. "It'd just hurt."
