Fourth Floor Common Room, Sunday Evening [9/23]

Hoshi felt like eating light this evening. So she was making a large pot of miso soup and spring rolls. She made sure to make plenty extra in case anyone else wanted to try some.

While she was waiting for the soup to simmer, she started flipping through channels on the television set, stopping on what seemed to be a football game. She wasn't familiar with either the Bears or the Cowboys, but her father and grandfather were both football fans so she understood how the game was played.

Ino was coming back from the park with the intention of writing down a few letters when she was distracted by the smell of miso. Mmm, miso.

Poking her head into the the common room, Ino spotted a girl. "Hi!" She said brightly.

"Hello. Would you like some soup and spring rolls?" asked Hoshi.

Ino beamed at her, wandering into the room, "I would love some! Most of the food around here, is so different from home." Some of it was good, she had to admit, but Ino missed what she was used to sometimes.

"I don't think I've met you before? I'm Yamanaka Ino."

"Hoshi Sato," she said, smiling. "Thankfully, my grandmother insisted that I learn how to cook a lot of her family recipes. I've been putting them to good use since I got here."

Ino flopped down on the couch, "I can cook a bit - they make us learn in training - but I'd rather have someone else do it for me. Do you like cooking?"

"I love cooking," said Hoshi. "Training?"

"Mmmm." Ino twisted around to look better at Hoshi, "I'm a ninja, and cooking was considered one of the vital skills all kunoichi - girl ninja - needed in case we have to go undercover as a civilian."

"Wow," said Hoshi as she fixed a bowl of soup for herself. "Sounds like a lot more fun. I got to study linguistics at home, but sometimes I wonder what else I missed out on."

Ino went and got herself a few spring rolls before returning to the couch, "Linguistics?" She asked, "That's language studies, right? There's not too much of that back home. Language is pretty universal. Where do you come from?"

Hoshi made herself comfortable on the couch. "Linguistics is like studying how languages are put together. One of my early tutors noticed that I had a knack with learning languages so they focused on teaching me as many new languages as possible. I'm from Kyoto, Japan, by the way, but the weird thing is that I'm from the 22nd century."

"That sounds... really boring." Ino said, nibbling on a spring roll, "No offense or anything. So, you're from the future, right?" Ino wasn't quite sure what century she was in right now to be honest. Just that it wasn't home.

"I guess you have to love languages as much as I do," said Hoshi, stirring up her soup. "My parents wouldn't send me to school with the other kids. They were told that I had a genius IQ and the schools would hinder my development. So I spent every day working one-on-one with a tutor. It was pretty lonely, but learning a new language gave me a sense that I was connecting with other people who could speak it. And I'm from 2144, which is about 137 years in the future from today. I'm not sure how that happened."

"I guess so." Ino said dubiously, "Doesn't that make it hard though? If you don't have any experience in talking with other people your age? There's more to talking than just knowing the language."

"My Dad sent me here, though I'm not sure where he learned about it." Ino brightened, "I'm from a different universe - it's something like this world's feudal Japan, only we've got TV and radio."

"It's tough," said Hoshi. "I'm getting a lot more comfortable with talking to other kids since I've been here. But at least I'm not as lonely as I was back home."

"That's good." Ino said encouragingly, "Most everyone here is really nice."

"Are you a new student too?" asked Hoshi. "I don't think I've seen you around yet."

"I'm new," Ino said cheerfully, "Just started a few weeks ago, and by Fandom big brother is completely crazy which sorta tipped me off about Fandom." She leaned forward, "It got weirder though when I met someone who is dead in my time."

"That is really weird. Then again, one of my classes turned out to be about modeling, so apparently anything can happen," said Hoshi with a shrug. "Who's your big brother?"

There was a modeling class? "That'd be an awesome class!" Ino said, "So much fun!"

"Jeff Murdock." Ino told Hoshi after a moment of thought, "Do you know him? Who is your sibling?"

"I've met Jeff," said Hoshi. "We both work at the hotel. He's nice, though he's a little odd. His girlfriend is really nice, though. She had to teach me about money when I first got here. My big sibling is Sam Winchester and he's been really helpful."

"Did he tell you to be careful of phones?" Ino wanted to know, "He's got a girlfriend?!" It took all types she supposed. "Sam Winchester? I think I met his brother Dean."

Adam made his way into the common room, in search of something drink. "Hey Hoshi," he smiled and waved, moving towards the fridge.

"We had a meeting at the hotel with Miss Connell, and Jeff insisted on sitting backwards and not facing her, which made her upset because she thought he was mad at her," said Hoshi. "And then he said something about getting his mind stuck picturing people in their underwear and she got all flustered. It was embarrassing."

"Hey Adam," said Hoshi, smiling. "I cooked again. Help yourself to some soup and spring rolls."

"Is this going to be a regular occurance, then?" Adam teased, happy to take some food. "Thank you," he meant it.
