It was Ben's fault.

That was Jonothon's story, and he was going to stick to it like glue.

He'd pulled out his guitar, and his amplifier, and he'd staked out a spot on the couch, which he'd turned just enough so that he could watch the door. The television wasn't on, but you had better believe that his amplifier was, and he had a small arsenal of songs memorized for the task at hand.

If anybody was going to try to make use of the common room on the fourth floor today, they were going to have to do it at the risk of being greeted by their very own theme music today, courtesy of Jonothon Starsmore and his electric guitar.

Totally Ben's fault.

It wouldn't be accurate to say that that Squall was holding a Welcome Picnic Protest Party, because... well, 1) the idea was stupid, 2) that was a lot of work for something he didn't care about, 3) it wasn't like he was going to INVITE anyone else, and 4) whatever.

The point was, the park outside was going to be filled with all sorts of new people he didn't care about who were probably all gawking at the bizarreness of Fandom in a really annoying way. Since Squall was nearly an adult, and he just seemed to randomly be given responsibilities he didn't want, if he went he'd probably end up having to help the newbies, or worse, be a big brother to someone.

So, he was staying FIRMLY in the dorms, avoiding people.

Yes, in a public common room. No, he wasn't hoping people would join him. He hated people. Shut up.

Anyway, the TV was on and tuned to some pedestrian bile about busting myths, mainly by blowing things up. Squall began to enjoy it in spite of himself.

Squall sat on the couch in the common room. Not HIS common room -- that was one floor up. This was Rinoa's common room, and every so often he leaned so he could see her door down the hallway.

It wasn't stalking, really.

He also had the television on, and was flipping through the channels grumpily. Everything sucked. Of course it did -- television was just a crutch for the feeble-minded to fall back on because they couldn't think of anything better to do -- but he was BORED and there was nothing good on.

Glaring at the television didn't seem to help.

Jenny set up at the table in the lobby with tickets for sale, the ballot box for the Prom Court, and piles of masks and beads. Sadly, there were no lemurs. Next year would be a different story...unless she thought of something better before then, of course.

The sign behind her read:

Prom 2010:  Paper Faces on Parade
Masquerade!
Juniors and Seniors, Come One, Come All, Come Dressed Up!

((Juniors or seniors and their underclassman dates may attend the prom. The theme this year is a masquerade, not, despite Jenny's best efforts, lemurs, so get those masks out!))

When one thought of love and romanticism and flowers, naturally they thought of Jenny Sparks. No? Very well then. It didn't matter. Jenny was still there, with the various Valentine's Day paraphernalia, occasionally eating some of the chocolate to fortify herself as she sold flowers and tickets for the Desperation Valentine's Day Dance.

Jenny was available to sell tickets, talk, or...be Jenny at you, unless, of course, she'd popped outside for a smoke break.

Why look, out there in the common room, pretending to be social while watching terrible, somewhat dated slasher films! Was it Jonothon? Why yes, yes it was!

The lights were dimmed, the sound was turned up as loudly as it could go without disrupting everyone else on the floor, and Jono was slumped back against the couch, as comfortable as he ever was, silently mocking anyone who thought that they'd be successful in their attempts to escape that guy with the chainsaw who walked incredibly slowly after them.

All that was missing was the popcorn.

For obvious reasons.

Just a few hours ago, the flamingoes had given up on their sudden, magical performance, and retreated to their usual perches for the night. The lights had gone out across Fandom Town, and so no one was awake to witness the start of the gentle tinsel snow. Glittering paper floated down, spreading across the fresh snow, coating it in shimmering colours. It was pretty, it was unnoticed, it was...

The fire alarm cut through the air without warning. The fragile peace of Sunday night shattered into tiny little shards, like a lunatic firing bullets into Christmas decorations with utter abandon. The tinsel? Kept falling. The alarm? Would not stop blaring. The firemen? Were out on the town. It was time for the annual 'strange weather' drill, and no man, woman, or angry pseudopod was going to dissuade them from ushering all the students away from the school.

As they rushed into the school, the tinsel kept falling. Enjoy, kids. We hope you stole a coat upon leaving, or you're going to be plenty cold.

Jenny had realized that yes, the student council election was just around the corner, and if she wanted any hope of retaining her seat and continuing to try to push through such dance themes as "skeletons" she'd better do something about that.

Jenny was not like other candidates for the Student Council, no.

She could be found tacking up hastily-made and somewhat crooked signs with the clearly well-thought-out and catchy slogan:

Brooke had had the TV on while she was setting up in the common room above the Super Bowl party. Not that there was a lot of setting up to do. She figured they had that covered downstairs, so she put out extra snacks, drinks in those red solo cups (what was in them, she wasn't telling, because that would get her in trouble), and Altoids. Lots and lots of Altoids. ...And maybe a camera, just in case anything good happened.

And once they went to commercial after the first half, Brooke just had to sit back and wait for people to show up.

Okay. So maybe Reno had slept through Newbie day yesterday. He wasn't going to hold himself at fault, here. He had a new pet. It just so happened to be nocturnal. Playing had to happen, and maybe it happened on into the night. That was just the way of things, dammit.

Today? Today, he was going to make an effort to be social. Or something. He had intended to make it all the way down the stairs and outside, but after the trek from the fourth floor to the third, laziness managed to set in.

So he was going to make himself comfortable in a common room that was not his own, turn on the TV, and he was going to order out for pizza. Because that counted as social. Really.

[Common room open, as common rooms are! Come on in and help yourself to the moddable pizza.]
raspberryturk: (Hmm.)
[personal profile] raspberryturk
The afternoon had seemed as good a time as any for Reno to wander out to the campfire after making sure all his crap was still in place in his alcove. Paranoia meant that he was going to be taking extra measures this summer to make certain that his things didn't walk off on him. Not that there was anyone in particular who he had his eye on, really, but when you grow up in a 'take what you can get' atmosphere, sometimes it's tough to get your head around it. He missed having a single room with a lock on the door already.

Which was why, when he finally wandered out of his alcove and to the campfire, it was with an armload of bottles. Tequila, scotch, rum, and Everclear. The important things in life. The stuff he'd be choked over if anyone happened to snatch them. Sharing, he was good by. Sure, he'd share. Light up a fire and hoard his booze, but share, sure.

Ah, first day of classes, a campfire lit, a stash of booze by his side, and not a class for Reno to worry about.

He could live with that.

[Open for all you afternoon drinkers. Or whoever. <3]

In the quest to find someplace that was spacious enough for the gaggle of children that happened to be following Reno about, Reno had decided to hit the roof with his own spawn. It was big, there was a view, and at present, it promised to be at least a little quiet.

Reno had also insisted that he make a run for breakfast before heading up there, and had possibly gone a little overboard, returning with about every breakfast food under the sun, and possibly a good deal of food that wasn't breakfast-oriented, either.

There was no way that the kids were going to be able to eat it all. That didn't bother Reno any. Meant there was more food around for later. Food was an important commodity when there were kids about. He was certain of it.

Now if only the weird one would stop trying to teach the scrambled eggs to dance. They weren't that overdone.

[Posted for a couple in particular, but totally open for kids, posse members, frustrated parents- Reno really, really overdid it on the food.]

Peter had gotten up late, which was strange since usually his nanny had him out of bed before noon. But sleeping in was fun, so Peter didn't mind.

Peter also didn't mind how he was able to get to the kitchen in the common room and help himself to sugar cereal. He poured himself a big bowl, barely waved the milk near it, and settled in to try to find cartoons on TV.

Throw in nobody lecturing him about having to act in a proper manner and this was shaping up to be the best Saturday ever.

The order of the evening was bacon, mushroom, and class-assignment eggbaby omelets.

Reno was making them in the third-floor common room. He figured, the farther down the floors he went, the better a chance he had of letting the smell waft up to floors higher up to make eggbaby parents regret not eating their assignments, too.

There was really only one eggbaby going into the omelet, of course, because letting everyone else run around like idiots taking care of chicken eggs was too damn amusing to interrupt, but he had brought along another couple dozen actual eggs, and there was plenty of late-night omelet to go around.

All things considered, children happened to taste pretty good.

After becoming possibly the first example of anyone ever actually receiving cosmic punishment for deleting a chain e-mail, Peter reached the common room, still wearing the shirt and sleep pants he woke up in. Sadly they weren't red and blue to match the icon and video but you don't always get what you want.

Peter felt so happy that he HAD to dance in what could be described as a 'gay, gay way', and he wanted to share that happiness with everyone. He continued to do this for a while, just dancing and humming the music that was in his head. He was definitely going to be hiding this afternoon after the curse wore off.

[OOC: Open as a CR, but WARNING: Watching Peter dance while he's under this curse will, in fact, make you gay. Temporarily, at least. Any characters who watch this will feel the incredible urge to kiss someone of the same gender. Once they do so, the urge will go away. You know, unless they already were gay. Or they just find that they kind of like it. Sorry guys, but Peter himself isn't up for kissing. He's too busy dancing.

Honestly, I've been waiting to do something like this for two years now. That's just sad.

ETA: Ha. The day I do something I actually get a call from a friend. Back in a few hours. Feel free to go on without me and mod Peter as continuing to dance.

Jenny's homework was to cook a meal, right? That people could eat? Well, Sunday night seemed as good a time as any to make breakfast for her fellow students. After all, she'd only woken up a few hours ago, so it totally counted as breakfast time. She'd decided to take this to the fifth floor in case she set something on fire. More plausible deniability that way.

There was cereal from a box, bacon that was not quite burnt around the edges, some slightly questionable scrambled eggs, tea, and toast. There was nothing wrong with the tea or the toast.

Romeo Montague had had a strange day in a strange week of what had been a pretty strange year.
Inspired by an episode of Vanessa Saturn, he decided a drinking game was in order. Specifically "I Never." And so invitations, written in a slightly florid hand, were slipped under dorm room doors -- some of new friends, some belonging to complete strangers.

There was a stash of booze set up under the coffee table, and Romeo sipped a rum-and-cider as he waited to see if anyone would actually show up.

Reno was antsy today. And antsy was not always the wisest state of being for Reno to remain in. He could try to drink it off, but drinking while he was feeling like this usually led to brawling, and he was trying to avoid being kicked off the island, here.

So he went with his other option- burn it off.

This was why Reno was running laps up and down the stairs of the dorms.

It was strange to have gone asleep in one time, and to have woken up in another, but hardly surprising given the island on which he stood. He was, however, thankful for the Manual functions that told him when he was -- otherwise, he would have been far more surprised, and probably not realised for longer than he'd like to admit.

As it was, he was smiling softly, wondering if he'd be given a chance to try and set right some of the few things he truly regretted from his time here, or if it was truly too risky to try.

Milkshakes. Sundaes. Banana splits. Even a baked Alaska. Homemade ice cream sandwiches. A couple of gelati. Even a random lemon sorbeto. Ronan was standing at the counter, making dish after dish, a few well-placed wizardries keeping bowls of ice cream from melting before they could be eaten by whoever came by. "Can you hand me the ginger?" Ronan asked, as he ground some spices with a mortar and pestle. "The fresh, I mean." The fragrant smells of cooking curry were already pervading the common room, and probably making their way through the rest of the dorms. When Cassandra was feeling restless, she usually found somewhere quiet to work out. Today, however, she felt like she needed a change.

Which was why she'd moved some of the furniture around in what looked to be a pretty random arrangement. Seats facing in all sorts of directions did not, after all, make a lot of sense for most purposes.

It might have made slightly more sense for what Cassandra was doing, which involved moving in random directions around the room without touching the floor.

It had been an odd sort of morning, really. At least, Adah could only assume that it wasn't exactly normal to awaken and have no idea who you were, where you were, and what you were doing there, beyond waking up. In fact, she could only assume that she was even Adah. Waking up confused, the first thing she thought to do was scour through the room for signs of identification: she dove into the books, the notebooks, that she found around her for insight into who exactly she was. She could discern that, barring any odd sort of displacement, her name was Adah Price and she, thankfully, took very careful logs and journals of things, but they were so confusing. Aft first, they looked like a foreign language but, quickly enough, it became evident that, if these were in fact her notebooks, she had a bizarre obsession with writing backwards and being...generally overly nonsensical. If this was her, it only left Adah even more confused. She then decided to walk around, trying to get something, a gleam of a memory from her surroundings, and had been wandering the island all day, only to find nothing. Top to bottom, bottom to top. She was back on the top again, the roof; the air was nice up here, and she had another one of this Adah person's notebook, trying to find some sense of self within.

"Ada, of essence, the is that, broken and bent, slant it, tell, but truth! the tell!" she read outloud from the notebook cradle in her hand, frowning at it as she paced back and forth. "But what the hell does that mean?"

Perhaps nothing; perhaps everything...Adah planned to pace until she figured it out.

[[ OPEN as roofs can be! Just an OOC note (and kind of spoilerish): it gets discovered that Adah's disability is mostly all mental and can be fixed; it's only so persistent because of how she remembers being told she couldn't walk and thinking that it was impossible. Having, of course, forgotten this influence on her behaviour because of Tabula Rasa, she now walks and speaks....somewhat normally ]]

Despite not having class until that afternoon, Jenny was up early for once, drinking strong tea, eating cereal straight from the box, and glaring at a blank page in her notebook. Finally, lacking inspiration, she called the first number that came up on her iPhone and asked whoever answered, "What's a good slogan for running for student council?"

Rose Tattoo hung up on her.

Jenny swore and started brainstorming.

Bad things happen when Jenny Sparks doesn't run things. No, that sounded like a threat.
Vote for Jenny Sparks and she might quit smoking! Like that would happen.
Jenny Sparks, the spirit of yesterday...today. Ack, no. Just...no.
Vote for Jenny: The Voice of Experience

Jenny eyed that last one thoughtfully. It didn't suck, she decided, or at least it didn't suck more than any other campaign slogan she'd ever seen. She circled it instead of scribbling it out like the others. Now she needed posterboard and markers. And candy. She couldn't be having a proper student government campaign without a few sugary bribes for the prospective voters. She started making a shopping list.

Besides, knowing that you were supposed to sleep in room 212 when you were illiterate just wasn't that useful. So Cass fled to the roof, where it was quiet and peaceful. She'd slept outside plenty of times over the preceding months, and she could always find her room in the morning.

After finding an out-of-the-way corner of the roof, Cass tossed her backpack down and laid back with her head pillowed on it. Not sleeping, just thinking. Of all the things she had planned for, wandering into town and ending up enrolled in school wasn't one of them.
