Cheerleader Practice - The Gym, Wednesday Afternoon

Claire was looking forward to setting up for no other reason than she got to choose the music. Jacking up her iPod to the usual CD player, she even shook her hips as she pulled out the mats.

"It's kinda weird, yeah," he said. "I have a hard time with the idea that there was another me who lived here and knew people and...stuff." He had issues with the whole feelings thing.

She nodded. "I'd met people who looked the same or were other versions of people I knew, but to meet another version of someone I'd known so well... It was really hard. And didn't make my boyfriend particularly happy."

"Sorry to cause problems," he cringed. "Your boyfriend plays flag football, right? Jim?" He'd seen her in the audience talking to him a couple times.

"It's okay. It was just hard for him at first, but once he realized I wasn't going to dump him and go running after you, he was okay. Not that you aren't a great person," she said, "because I'm sure you are. And yeah, Jim plays flag football."

"No offense taken," John chuckled at the thought.

She smiled at him. "So... if you don't mind my asking, what brought this on. I mean, usually you hardly say two words to me."

"No ulterior motive," John assured her. "Just thought it'd be nice to get to know a fellow cheerleader."

"Well, I'm glad you did," she said with a smile. "My Shep was a pretty great guy, so I imagine you're probably awfully nice as well."

"I guess he and I probably have...had a lot in common," he replied. "Other than the face, I mean."

"I'd guess so," she said, "but I don't really know you well enough to say. He was... quite a bit older."

John raised an eyebrow, "I thought he was a student?"

She swallowed. "I can't really explain too much because it's not my secret to tell, but through some Fandom weirdness he got turned back into a teenager and sent to school here. He was actually in his mid 30's."

"Well, I guess we wouldn't have much in common after all," John replied in a state of disbelief. "Though being all old might give you a leg up on the classes..."

"I think he took the opportunity to study some of the odder things here- stuff he hadn't learned about before." She shrugged. "I didn't know for a long time that he was so much older."

"Guess I don't have to worry about getting too serious," John grinned. "So, tell me something about you so that we might be able to be friends without the whole 'other me' thing hanging over our heads."

"Um... I'm a senior. From Smallville, Kansas originally. Ran my own coffee shop back home."

"Ooh, free coffee's always a good job perk," he said. "Assuming you like coffee."

"I do," she said with a grin. "But for me it was more about being able to start up my own business,and really make it my own, you know? And to save the place where my parents first met."

"That's pretty impressive," John said, nodding his head. "You must be quite the businesswoman."

"Well, it wasn't a huge money maker, but I kept it in the black," she said with a smile.

"That counts," he grinned. "And now I know something about you."

"You do," she said with a smile. "And I'm glad. I've enjoyed talking with you."

"Me too, we'll have to do it again sometime," he told her.

"I'd like that," she said.
