Fourth Floor Common Room, Thursday afternoon

Victor needed to flee the confines of the room he shared with Longbottom for a time, so he brought his notebooks out into the common room and put up a sign saying "DO NOT DISTURB."

Because that was going to go over well in a public space.

[OOC: Open as common rooms tend to be despite what the sign says.]

"Okay," said Hoshi, unpacking a carton of eggs and some milk and putting them in the fridge. She had no problem with silence.

After a few moments, she said, "You know, I didn't realize those old-fashioned pencils made so much noise. The data padds we use back home are so much quieter."

"Find me a way to get back to my century and you've got a deal," said Hoshi, finding a space in the fridge for a few more items.

Hoshi remained silent, but she knew from experience that geniuses needed to eat to keep up their energy. Maybe some chocolate fudge brownies would help Victor work a little faster. She started rummaging through her shopping bag for the chocolate chips she just bought. It's a shame those plastic bags were so noisy.

"Sorry," said Hoshi, putting the bags away. She brought out a mixing bowl and added flour, eggs, baking soda and whatever else comes in the packaged mix, then started whisking the mixture together. She couldn't entirely avoid the scraping noise the whisk was making against the sides of the metal bowl.

"Hang on, I'm almost done. I just need to put this in a pan and put it in the oven and then I'll be out of your way," promised Hoshi. She grabbed a rubber spatula to silently scoop the batter out of the bowl and into a baking pan. Then she put it in the oven and set the timer.

Unfortunately, she couldn't figure the timer out and it started beeping incessantly.

"Oven timer," said Hoshi. "I think it's broken." She fiddled with the timer, but it would not cease beeping.

"Be my guest," said Hoshi, setting the timer down on the counter.

Hoshi was speechless. She stared at the broken pieces of the timer, at a complete loss for what to do next.
