intraspective: (huh?)

In Front of the Dorms, Friday Mid-Morning

After class Ino wandered outside to sit on the lawn, and settled down to try and think of a way to write to her dad and tell him she really didn't want him to come for Parents Weekend. Sure, she wanted him to find out about the Yondaime but... other things? Not so much.

Judging from the tone of his letters Ino doubted she'd have much luck. Maybe she'd get lucky and he'd be sent out on a mission?

She also kept getting distracted by the group of wee knights who were plotting to take over the steps. At least, that's what she guessed they were planning from the amount of arm waving and pointing that was going on.

"Well, yes. In the sense that he was here last year. And I tell him things. I don't think he believes me, most of the time. But then, he was mostly interested in drinking and gambling that weekend." She sighed. "He needs a rest, so I'll be quite glad if he can find a way to entertain himself here."

Two of the knights decided that it was time to attack because of this, and proceeded to shoot teeny-tiny arrows at Evie's and Ino's shoes. "Oh, do stop that." Evie shook her finger at them. "Shame on you! It was only grass." She sighed. "Jonathan's been in a war zone for the last nine months. He's long overdue for a rest. So... you can see why even *this* place would be preferable." She smiled a little. "The War is due to end soon, though. Then he can go home."

The tiny arrows didn't even penetrate Evie's shoes. The knight's shook fists at them, then got into a rather ominous huddle, shooting glances over at the two girls.

"The history books. The battles where he is are due to be over by Christmas, although the War itself goes on for another five or six months." Evie sighed. "It's why I'm here, actually. My parents were worried about bombings, and wanted one of their children to be safe. Jonathan's been determinedly upbeat, but I think he's had a rather worse time of it than he's admitted to me." She shook her head. "I'm just rather relieved my parents won't be coming-- they *don't* know about this place, and all the strangeness. They'd take me out immediately if they did."

The knights began a charge, circling Evie and Ino and waving their banners and swords as they ran in circles. Clearly, it was meant to be intimidating. Evie couldn't help giggling again.

"I am relieved that it will come out well. I suppose it would be different for me, if I knew I was going back to a country which lost... My country has been in wars. But not at home, not recently. And Cairo had civil unrest, new government..." Evie put her chin down on her knees, drawing them up. "Lord. What were they fighting about, at your home? In those wars before?"

The knights ducked the grass as if assaulted by a hurricaine, then stopped to wheel their horses in the other direction. Meanwhile, the knights who had claimed the sidewalk decided now was the time to attack, and came galloping toward those trying to attack Evie and Ino.

"Sooo, over honor? And family?" Evie sighed. "Our war was over territories, and riches. I don't know if that makes it better or worse." She shook her head. "Your father doesn't know what this place is like? What would he find most objectionable?"

[identity profile] bookyeve.livejournal.com 2007-10-13 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Ahhhh. So for weapons, really." Evie nodded. "That's happened to us, too. And oh!" She gave Ino a dismayed look. "Oh, no, I can quite see why your father would object. What did Kabuto do?"

[identity profile] bookyeve.livejournal.com 2007-10-13 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh,lord." Evie bit her lip. "Is -- why are you seeing him? If he's your enemy, and, well. I don't quite understand about starting up another ninja village, but, how can you trust him, Ino?"

[identity profile] bookyeve.livejournal.com 2007-10-13 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Hmmm." That wasn't a concept that quite fit into Evie's concepts of 'romance' or 'dating', but it did bear a resemblance to her brother's attempts to woo various women, on occasion. "Who is winning, at the moment?"

Which did have a certain appeal, although not for Evie, personally. Sokka might not be safe, exactly, but he wasn't quite dangerous, either. "It sounds exciting, certainly. And, I suppose, if you like those kind of games... it's good to find someone else who enjoys them?" She gave Ino an anxious look. "But oh, I do hope you're careful." And she wasn't just thinking about ninja stars and throwing things.

Gulp. "That's good," Evie said weakly. "About the not-killing." The tangle of loyalties there seemed a much worse risk, though. "There's no chance your father will find out soon?"

[identity profile] bookyeve.livejournal.com 2007-10-13 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
"Ahh. I see. That does make sense." Evie tilted her head. "No one here would tell him, correct? I mean, your father doesn't know anyone who would write and mention it? So if he doesn't come to Parents' Weekend, You *should* be all right."

The knights now came together with a clash of tiny armor and steel, whapping and hacking at each other and shooting arrows back and forth. "Oh, dear...."

[and I zonk out for sleep. SP tomorrow?]

"I'll keep my fingers crossed for you," Evie promised, then looked back at the now-battling knights. "I really do think we should, some of them are bound to get hurt." She stuck one leg out to make a barrier, much to the annoyance of a few knights who tried to get their horses to jump it, with no success.

"He certainly shan't hear any differently from me," Evie said with determination, then sighed as the knights ducked from the hairband, retreating off a little ways to shake lances at them, looking annoyed. She put out her other leg to thwart them, and watched the knights work out that she was going to remain and obstacle, and pull back outside of her reach. They seemed to be intently discussing their options. With the occasional arrow shot over at the other side as practice, perhaps.
