Third Floor Common Room of Face-Punching, Friday Night

Okay, so lunch had been a wash, and Rikku didn't go around inventing holidays in order to not punch people in the face.

So the third floor common room was crammed full of all the moddable snacks she could get her grabby little hands on, and she'd even made a banner:

Happy Hu Uha Eh Vyhtus Ghufc So Ranedyka Yhofyo!

That was all the warning anybody was going to get.

... Of course, the snacks looked good enough that she'd probably risk a few hits in order to snag some. That was how these fake holidays went, you know.

(OOC: Come one, come all! Remember: snacking means punching in the face. Come for the snacks, stay for the gratuitous violence?)

Hoshi wasn't really interested in the snacks. She was more interested in the foreign language on the banner. "Are you the girl who does the thing in the paper about learning Al Bhed?" she asked Rikku.

"You bet!" Rikku bounced. "It's the language of my people. Nobody really speaks it here, except Lulu. The Sex Ed teacher? She's kinda a friend of mine, from home. And Alec's been learning some, too, just to learn it. Rammu! Famlusa!"

"Rammu. Famlusa. What do they mean?" asked Hoshi.

"Hello and welcome," she smiled. "And the banner is ... oh. I can't translate the banner, it'd give something away."

Rikku leaned in, dropping her voice. "Honestly? The banner is kinda me admitting I made this whole holiday up."

"Neat. I'm Hoshi, by the way. Learning languages is what I do," she said.

"Hi!" she said, sticking her hand out. "I'm Rikku. Oooh, really? How many do you know? I've been printing Al Bhed in the paper since no one here really knows it, but I don't ever know if anybody's reading it or not. And, uh, because ... because where I'm from people are kinda mean about the Al Bhed, but here nobody cares, so I can do stuff like that. You know?"

"I've been reading it," said Hoshi. "I know nearly every language on Earth so I'm working on languages that aren't normally spoken by people on Earth."

"Oooh." Rikku nodded. "Whoa. That's awesome. I just kinda know the two. I was raised speaking Al Bhed but Pops wanted us to be able to talk to the Yevonites, too. Uh. Those are the other people from where I'm from."

"So you speak Al Bhed and and Yevonite?" asked Hoshi, positively gleeful. That meant there were two more new languages to learn!

Rikku grinned. "Yevonite's kinda ... standard? Common? Close to this, sort of a thing."
