Second floor common room, Monday afternoon

Jim had an experiment to conduct. He settled into the common room and turned on the History Channel. It seemed to be Titanic Day or something because everything they were showing was about the Titanic. That was weird.

It also had nothing to do with his experiment. He sat back, watched Modern Marvels, and wondered how he was going to work vole skeletons into conversation.

Jack plopped down on the chair, already having a wonderful week.

Big boat sinking summed up his mood.

"Hey," Jim said. "Have we met before?"

"I'm not sure," Jack said. "You don't look familiar what with the head not shaped like a pumpkin at least."

"Jim Halpert," Jim said. "Nice to meet you."

"Jack Burton, likewise," he said, reaching out his hand.

Jim shook it. "So, what brings you down to the common room, Jack? Just can't get enough of the History Channel? Wanted to see if there was any food? Wanted to see a vole skeleton?"

"Let me guess...an unsinkable ship sank a hundred years ago today, or something?" Marco said as he came into the room.

"No, I think it was actually in April in 1912," Jim said. "I think they just wanted to have a random theme day today."

Marco made a face. "So close, and yet, so far. That's a random theme."

"Trying not to stay cooped up in my room," he said, staring at the television."

He did not just hear that. "Did you just ask if I wanted to eat a mole skeleton?"

"It might be ten years since the movie was made, come to think of it," Jim said. "That might explain it."

"Why would I ask if you wanted to eat a mole skeleton?" Jim asked. He could have understood the mole-vole thing, but eating?

"See? There's always a reason. Even if you don't always want to know it."

"Personally, I think the schedule guy lost a bet and had to put all of this on today," Jim said.

"I was watching the TV and you were talking about food and skeletons." He was very confused.

"Had he won, he would have gotten a year's worth of free pizza."

"So sad," Jim said. "Instead he has to show Titanic stuff and deal with a vole skeleton."

"I don't think I have any idea what you're talking about," Jim said.

"I know I don't have any idea what you're talking about," Jack said, very confused.

But certain that he was confused.

"Oooooh, good TV for once," Pam said from the doorway.

Marco paused. "So he's an owl?"

"You're a very confusing person," Jim said.

The good news was that he successfully worked in the vole skeleton into conversation and was not ill. Woo.

"Owls are smart. It's only natural they'd work for History Channel," Jim said.
