5th Floor Common Room, Tuesday Evening

Rodney had been moderately frustrated that afternoon when he discovered that the internet seemed to be down. And then he heard the announcement about the flu epidemic and got just a little freaked out. As he tended to do.

To combat his inherent paranoia, Rodney decided to indulge in some mindless entertainment. He found the DVD of Creature from Space (the first one) and figured that some classic sci-fi would be the perfect distraction. Especially since scary movies tended to lead to clingy girls. He was hoping Charlie would be the type to cling.

He made a huge bowl of popcorn and brought out an assortment of fully moddable candy and sodas. He even made sure there was a handy trash can for the wrappers. Once everything was set, he settled himself on the couch, started the movie and began munching on popcorn.

In space, no one can hear you scream.

"I knew I smelled popcorn!" John said, flopping on the sofa and digging his hand into Rodney's popcorn bowl.

"You know, most people ask before they start eating other people's food." Not that Rodney himself would be stopped by such a social convention.

"Aw, sorry, Rodney," John drawled said, not at all apologetically. "Did you want it back?" He offered the handful of popcorn to Rodney.

"Oh, gross," Rodney said disgusted. "Keep your germs to yourself. Don't you know there's a virus going around?"

Charlie waved to John over the popcorn and grinned. "Long time no see. This is familiar."

"Hey, that it is," he nodded his head in greeting. "How's it going?"

"Good! I'm having fun doing zombie movie and CD reviews for the newspaper lately. And trying not to flunk math." She grinned at Rodney. "Certain people help with that. How're things going with you?"

Charlie arrived only a little late, and flopped down on the couch next to Rodney on the other side from John. "Ooo. Yay, scifi! What are we watching?"

Rodney smiled at Charlie's arrival. "It's Creature from Space, the first one," he added. "You haven't seen it before, right?" Rodney asked a little too late. His plans for a clingy girlfriend would be shot if she already knew what would happen.

"The first one? Unh-uh," Charlie said, shaking her head. "I've seen the second one five times, though. So I'll probably like this one." She grinned, sneaking a handful of popcorn as she tucked her feet under her. "Have you seen it before?"

"Oh, cool," that was promising. He held the popcorn bowl closer to her side. "I haven't seen any of them. Always thought they looked too scary," he admitted.

On screen, John Hurt was not having a good time at dinner. He began coughing and seizing and had to be held down. His abdomen appeared to rupture from the inside and blood sprayed out. Something burst out of his stomach and pushed its way through his shirt. The slimy head of the Creature peered around at the people surrounding it as its tail uncoiled. It let out an inhuman noise and skittered away.

[Please wait for Rodney to react first as anyone who is in the room at this point would probably notice.]

Rodney hadn't been paying too much attention to the movie up til now. But he noticed this part. In fact, he could sympathize with the poor guy as he felt like something wanted to burst out of him as well. However, in Rodney's case, it was the popcorn that was trying to come back up. By the time the Creature took off, Rodney was heaving into the trash can.

"Rodney? Rodney!" Charlie leaned forward to help, then leaned back, patting him on the back. "Oh, maaaaan... Maybe food during the movie wasn't a good idea after all."

"Didn't see that coming," John muttered, making a face of disgust. He was concerned, in his own manly way. "You okay, buddy?"

Now that the embarrassing part of the evening is over, feel free to watch the rest of the movie or just hang out all night.
