The Dorm roof: Thursday morning

Karal, being from Karse, had no idea what Thanksgiving was.

Or at least he hadn't until last night, when he'd gone looking for an explanation. It was a fascinating holiday, he'd decided, one that filled him with no small amount of hope.

It had also planted the seed of an idea, one that kept growing, and he'd spent several hours trying to capture it in words. Now he was on the roof, standing under the light of the morning sun.

There was no one to see and no one to hear (or so he thought, though he didn't check), but he didn't mind. This was something he needed to do. Walking to the edge, he lifted his chin, robes fluttering in the light breeze, and began to speak.

"Vkandis Sunlord, this is not a day which belongs to You, but I stand as Your servant, under Your Eye, and ask that You turn Your attention towards it. This is a day on which the people here give thanks, and there are many things for which I am thankful.

We faced tragedy and loss, but we overcame them together. Oddness visits this island as regularly as the sun, but it simply makes us stronger. The people here come from worlds beyond counting, but our differences lift us, and make us together far more than we would be alone.

Thank you for the strength and courage, for the joy and love and wonder of life on this island. Hold it under Your Hand and protect it from harm, for its people are extraordinary." He was quiet for a moment, before adding, "Last of all, I give thanks for the gift You granted me when You sent me here."

He bowed his head, dropping into Karsite to recite a traditional prayer of gratitude, then fell silent, washed in a deep sense of peace as he looked out over the island.

[ooc: it's totally open, yes.]
