Gym, Flag football practice, Sunday afternoon

When the flag footballers showed up for practice today, they would find themselves facing an obstacle course. And a Willow who looked far too bouncy and pleased with herself.

"Okay, hi everybody!" Willow said. "Today we have a special practice set up. And you should totally thank Jim for helping me out with this as I could not have done it without his help in the department of brains and storming.

"Today you are going to exercise by engaging in a race around the mall. Only there's no malls in Fandom and going to the mainland for this would require permission slips and getting the guy who answered the phone in the mall's security department to stop asking me if I was a terrorist. So I have brought the mall to you!"

Willow walked through the obstacle course, pointing things out as she went. She began next to a pile of shoes of various sizes and styles. "You start out here in the Payless. You have to find two pairs of matching shoes and put them in this box over here marked BOGO. Then you go over here - "

Willow went to stand beside rows of moddable items, such as barbeque forks, clocks, golf tees, binoculars, and duct tape. "Your next stop is Brookstone. You have ten minutes to go through these items and use the duct tape to combine two or more into one super-item just in time for the holidays! Once the judge has approved your item - " The judge was Willow's hedgehog, Philbert, who was sitting in his cage. He wasn't going to be difficult to please. " - you can then go over here."

Willow stood beside a sign marked 'Detour' "A detour is a choice between two tasks, each with its own pros and cons. Today's detour options are 'Eat it, or Beat it.' In 'Eat It' you must make your way through the food court - " The food court was represented by piles of takeaway boxes that were stacked up on a table. " - and eat something from every stand. In 'Beat It' you have to go to the main courtyard - " This was represented by an area rug with a fake plant and an mp3 player that was piping out Muzak. " - and perform a dance that manages to work with the rythm of the provided soundtrack and represents the idea of community.

"One task exposes you to possibly toxic elements that may make you throw up," Willow said. "And the other makes you eat a whole lot of food but at least there's no John Tesh playing. So choose wisely."

Willow went to the last spot. "When you have successfully completed your detour, you come here to the water fountain." This was a wading pool filled with water and handfuls of change. "The water fountain is the pit stop for this leg of the race. Those who do not make it here in a timely and/or suitably impression fashion may be eliminated. And by eliminated I mean you're not getting one of these."

Willow held up a coat. The back read "Members Only" with a gold star. If it looked like the logo had been done on a computer, printed up on special paper, then ironed on to the jacket - well there was a good reason for that.

"And there we are!" Willow said. "So head over there, get ready, get set, and go!"
