The Stables: Tuesday afternoon
Seeing light snow though his window had been enough to send Karal hurrying down to the stables. Trenor didn't seem overly concerned, head sticking out of his stall to watch the sky, as if expecting flurries to arrive at any moment, but he was cold to the touch.
It was time to introduce him to the blanket.
Karal groomed him to a high gloss, then led him out into the stableyard, draped his lead over the fence, and began to unfold the blanket. Trenor flicked his ears nervously, back and forth, and stamped one foot, neck arched and nostrils flaring as he watched Karal.
It was obviously a horse eating blanket of some kind and he sidled away as Karal approached him with it. "Trenor, stand," Karal said firmly.
Trenor stood. Just long enough for Karal to try and flick it up over his back, an attempt he neatly side stepped, and he craned his neck around to watch in astonishment as the horse eating blanket landed in the dirt.
Karal scowled at him, hands on his hips. "Bad horse." Trenor's ears drooped and he dropped his head meekly, letting Karal toss the blanket over his back.
There were a lot of buckles and straps to do up, and a lot of adjustments to be made, and Karal fussed over getting it to sit just right. "There," he said with satisfaction. "You actually look quite handsome." Karal took off his halter, then climbed up to sit on the fence to see how Trenor was going to react.
Trenor snorted, turning his head first to one side, then the other, peering back at the blanket. One step, two steps, and he launched himself into the air, kicking out with his back legs, and bucked his way across the yard. Dirt flew as he slid to a stop, propped, spun on his rear hooves and cantered back the way he'd come, ears up and tail flagged.
When he reached just the right spot, he stopped, pawed the ground, then lowered himself, rolling in the dirt, legs flailing in the air as he grunted happily. The pristine blanket didn't stay that way for long.
Eventually, having subdued the horse eating blanket, Trenor hauled himself to his feet looking decidedly smug, shook his whole body, then pranced over to nudge Karal's chest. Laughing, Karal scratched under his forelock. "Pleased with yourself, are you?"
Trenor snorted and nosed Karal's hands, looking for any carrots that might happen to be hanging around. "You really are a very silly horse."
[ooc: mainly establishy, but it can be open if you don't mind EXTREME slow play.]
