The roof: Wednesday at dawn
It had been nagging at Karal for days -- there was something he'd forgotten, or missed, or lost, but he hadn't been able to pin it down.
Until now. Just before dawn, he'd woken abruptly, the room dark apart from the blue glow of Altra's eyes, knowing what he'd missed. As quietly as he could, he dressed and went up to the roof, Altra padding by his side.
Breath fogging in the cool morning air, Karal stood at the edge of the roof, watching the sun rise through the clouds. The Fire Kindling ceremony. "We've missed it, haven't we?"
Altra pressed against his legs. :With the way time's running in Karse? Yes. We missed it.:
It left Karal feeling lost, and he bowed his head, shoulders slumped. "How could we have missed it? How could I have forgotten?" Sunlord, forgive me.
Altra smacked a paw hard against Karal's shins. :Don't be ridiculous. You didn't forget, you're in a different world. It's not even midwinter here, yet.:
Karal blinked, then looked down at the 'cat, thoughts whirling. "Do you think we could?"
:Could what?:
"Celebrate it here, at this world's midwinter. Bright Flame, I know it wouldn't be the same, but it would be better than missing it completely, and there are people who would come." He frowned. "I think."
:Of course they would, but Karal,: Altra's mindvoice was uncharacteristically hesitant, his ears tilted uncertainly, :are you sure about this?:
"I am. I'll seek permission, and if it's allowed, we can celebrate it with our friends." He laughed suddenly, tilting his face up into the pale sunlight. "If I'm going to do this, I'd best find out when midwinter actually is."
[ooc: cold roof is open, of course.]
