The grounds: Friday morning [before classes]

It was a nice enough morning that Karal went down to the stables early, so he'd have time to take Trenor out to graze before opening the library.

The two were making their slow way across the lawn, Trenor occasionally dropping his head to pick at the grass, Karal more than a little distracted as he looked up into the sky, the lead rope loose in his hand.

[ooc: open, yessss.]

There was a Jeff here.

And where there was a Jeff, this early in the morning, there was also a Nana. Attached to a leash, and not particularly caring much about it. Which is to say that it wasn't so much Jeff walking Nana as Jeff getting dragged by Nana.

And then she paused.

It was that... thing.

And that would be the point where Jeff's arm was nearly wrenched out of place as Nana went from straining the leash forwards to straining it backwards, scrambling away in a manner befitting of a particularly scared housecat.

"NANA!"

In the process, she completely floored Jeff, who hit the ground hard, was dragged along several feet, and then let go of the leash, which skittered over the ground after the panicking dog.

"NANA! COME BACK! THIS IS NO TIME TO REPORT TO SPY TANK COMMAND!"

Nana ran away. She ran away, ran away. Occasionally she would pause and bark, but mostly, it was the running away that seemed like her best bet.

On the ground, Jeff pushed himself up. A little. Athletic, he was not. "Well," he said, "She's an evil spy tank, there ought to be a command somewhere. I just haven't found it yet."

Jeff was more than pleased to use Karal's hand to wrench himself up.

He ran a hand through over his hair, and came up dirt. "I think I've turned into a sand monster," he said, sadly. He stared after the pets for a moment. "I imagine she'll be sleeping in front of my door again tonight." Pause. "Oh god. I'm an insomniac sand monster!"

"I've got sand in my hair and Nana's about to lock me out of my room again," Jeff pointed out, soberly, "It's sort of hard to avoid in that set of circumstances." He had a lot of experience in this area.

He stared after the pets more. "They'll come back."

Followed quickly by loud, enthusiastic, and panicky barking. Nana had a voice on her.

"She bites me," Jeff said, sagging.

"I'm fairly certain she's just an ordinary Saint Bernard," Jeff said, helplessly, "Who also happens to be an evil spy tank."

"Technically speaking," Jeff offered, in an occupation sort of way, "Your horse chased off my dog."

"Well, your horse is very threatening," Jeff said. This whole thing was making him feel very defensive. "She's very horselike. A mountain of horse. You can't expect to leave a mountain of horse here and not have dogs running off all the time, it's just impossible."

It was early. Chris figured it would be safe for him to run into town to buy Lana flowers before anyone else was awake and out.

When he saw Karal and a horse, he involuntarily shuddered. It was probably a very good thing he and Johnny hadn't actually found horses the other day.

He tried to sneak past without being spotted.

Crap.

Chris forced a smile. "Morning, Karal. You're up early."

Chris unconsciously took a step back from Trenor. "I'm... okay," he said. "Been a weird couple of days."

Which was an understatement of epic proportions.

"No need to be discriminating," Jeff said, a little uncomfortably, "Just 'cos she's a bit heavy... loads of things are heavy, you know, I bet the horse would've broken the ceiling too if it'd gone to war with the flies."
