Fifth floor common room, Monday evening

There were so many strange and unusual things in Fandom, so many new things to learn about and master, that Seregil was too busy to feel depressed.

Television in particular fascinated him. It reminded him a little of wizards' communication orbs back home, except that the content wasn't specific to any particular person and you could control how it works even if you weren't a wizard.

Currently, Seregil was sitting crosslegged on the couch in the common room, playing with the remote. Most of the controls were self explanatory and he could figure out what they did even before he hit the buttons. On, off, volume up and down, even mute, these he had no problems with and he hit each of them several times to make sure they did what he thought they did.

What he was having a more difficult time figuring out was the numbering system it used. At first he thought it was some code to bring up the type of thing you wanted the television to show you – one combination of numbers brought up ghost stories, another brought up obvious farce, a third brought up some kind of organized combat display, but time and testing showed him that these didn't remain consistent.

For example, this time when he punched in the combination that had led to ghost stories the last time he'd experimented, he got something else entirely. Something with a lot of very pretty young women engaged in, as far as Seregil could make out, training for something very much like the Street of Lights back in Rhiminee. Whatever it was, it was intriguing enough to make Seregil forget about trying to figure out the television and settle in and watch.

He wondered what Tyra's House was called and how much she charged. From what he could see, it would definitely be worth the cost.

Annette wandered down the hall from her room, wanting chocolate and ice cream. Or chocolate ice cream. She was in a pair of baggy sweats and one of Dick's Neptune sweatshirts.

Walking in, she headed straight for the fridge, only glancing over at the TV and the new guy sitting there on the couch. "Hey," she called out, right before she opened the freezer to dig around for ice cream.

Finding chocolate mint ice cream, Annette walked over and sat down in a chair near the couch. Curling her legs up under her, she smiled at him. "New student? I'm Annette..."

"Pleasure to meet you, Seregil," she smiled. "This is ice cream. Mint chocolate to be exact. You've... never had ice cream before?"

"Would you like to try this? I can grab another spoon. This is cold and so good," she said, eyebrow arched. "Where are you from, Seregil?"

"Ooooh, I have no idea where that is," replied Annette. "I'm just a normal girl from Manhattan. What year are you from?"

[identity profile] misshargrove.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
"Really?" asked Annette, intrigued. "How do you count them then? And I hope I'm not bugging you with all these questions. I tend to be nosey but not on purpose, really." Annette was totally a nosey person.

She took a bite of her ice cream and studied him.

"Oh. Probably no sense in me asking since I wouldn't understand it," she said, grinning.

"So, how are you liking Fandom so far?"

After her conversation with Glitch earlier that day, Willow was a girl on a mission. She came into the common room to therefore be missiony.

Not dirty.

"Hello!" she said to a person she didn't recognize and anyone else in the room

"I'm Willow," she said. "By which I mean that is my name and not that I am tree-like in some fashion. Are you of the new?"

[identity profile] willbedone.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Willow blinked and stared. "The heck you say."

"Pleasure to meet you Seregil," Willow said. "Please don't take this the wrong way and allow me to preface it by saying that I have a boyfriend to whom I am extremely devoted, but do you enjoy dancing?"

[identity profile] willbedone.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
"Would courtly dancing be something that might appeal?" Willow asked. "Bearing in mind that I myself am not very good at it so the bar here is not being set very high."

[identity profile] willbedone.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh yay!" Willow said. "In which case might you be interested in a practice lesson of such dancing in the Park this Saturday?"
