5th Floor Common Room, Monday morning before class

Michael was cooking breakfast again. He'd had some trouble deciding on what to go for, so there were a variety of foods spread out on the counter.

All comers were welcome to request their favourites.

[ooc: open as common rooms are!]

"And I never said you did."

That was childish. He decided to stop.

"Are you cooking for yourself? Or..."

"If you don't mind," he said after a moment. He was always a little leery of accepting things from people.

"I see," he said. "But you are still cooking it."

"As you say," though he was still wary. If it was any kind of consolation, it was a universal wariness as opposed to any kind of dislike for Michael.

Professor Ambrose regularly drove himself mad trying to explain why he could accept things from people. The best answer, so far, when it came to Liir seemed to be 'because I said so'.

"I don't know," he admitted. "What can you make?"

He waved a hand.

"Whatever you're in the mood to make," he said. "I don't--"

He shrugged.

"I eat what's in front of me."

Preferences were for other people.

"I wouldn't know. As you like."

He hoped he didn't sound irritated or ungrateful. That wasn't--

He was annoyed that he didn't know, as per usual.

The smell of cooking sausages brought back memories, not all of them pleasant, but he smiled either way.

"It smells good," he said.

"I suppose so," he said in reply, not having much to say about it. Then he leaned on the counter.

"How's class for you?"

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-01-28 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"Any of them. But you're right, Math is getting more interesting."

He leaned on one arm.

"I managed to find out that someone, at least, does have a currency conversion chart for a few different worlds."

"Turtle," he said, pointing towards the town. "Down at Turtle & Canary. We talked about it, mostly because she wanted some of the conversion rates from myself and Professor Ambrose."

"You're not planning on going back to your world as well?"

As soon as it was out of his mouth, he realized he'd made a rather long leap to a very unlikely conclusion.

"Or just hoping to travel?"

The nod that came after that was too quick. Entirely nervous.

And he didn't say anything after that. It was easier just to look at everything else.
