The Grounds around the Stables, Friday Morning

[intraspective]

The ground was still wet from the rain earlier, but Ino was out bright and early to fuss with her garden area. After double-checking that all the little markers were in place, and fixing the ones that had moved—how?—she rocked back on her heels and considered the ground. Hmmm.

It was the perfect time to start digging up the ground and making it so she could plant her seedlings. Yes, she’d promised Karal that she’d have him help, but Ino didn’t see why she couldn’t, you know, start.

There’d still be plenty of work to do after all. With a grin, and a bounce in her step, Ino went and fetched her gardening shovel, then set to work cheerfully.

[Open, yes. I’ll be slow due to that whole working thing, but should be mostly around.]

Ino wrinkled her nose at him. "That better not be an insult anywhere in that." She didn't want to be a model, but anyone implying that she couldn't be was still totally uncalled for.

"Flowers mostly," she said, smiling. "Lots of kinds. Seedlings have totally taken over my room."

"I can't picture you as a lawyer." he clarified. "I didn't know you were a garden type." Not that he knew much about her at all.

She laughed. "I think we were mostly going from the fact that I've got a brain, shocking, I know, and the fact that Kabuto liked the idea of me in a skirt, heels and shouting 'Objection!' at people." Which was totally a lawyer. Or something.

"Hmmm? Yeah," she glanced at the shovel. "Ninja and florists. That's my family in a nutshell."

"That's an interesting combination. But, fitting really."

"Fitting?" Her smile went up a notch. "Don't hear that very often. Most people just kinda blink and stare a little."

"Well there's the whole Bonzai tree thing." he smirked. "But really it sounds like it could be kind of a meditative activity."

"It is," she said, "but most people don't think fighting and meditating go together either."

"Those people aren't ninjas are they." Billy guessed. Meditation had been at least half of his training.

"Most aren't," she agreed, smiling a bit. "But some of them do, at least, know a little about fighting so you'd think... but no."

"Meditation was a large part of my training. All about fighting with a clear, focused mind."

"Back home, some families use it more than others. My family definitely does a lot of it, but I know a few people who don't."

"There's some back home who don't put much stock in it either. But they don't tend to be ninjas."

"There's a lot of ways to be a ninja," she said with a shrug. "Some do just fine without it."

Billy thought of Firefly and Zartan. They both had the skills of a ninja, but he didn't figure them as the meditating type. "Hmm, good point."
