Cheerleading Practice, The Gym, after classes - 4/8

Music was going, mats were out, healthy food and drinks were situated on a table at the sideline. And Annette was chilling out, just waiting for everyone to show up and get on with their practicing and meetings and whatever else needed tending too.

Annette didn't get asked out often and because he was the one to ask her out, then yeah, she felt almost... giddy.

"That sounds really great, A.J.," she said. "I'll be ready." And Annette knew these types of affairs were elequent, so she could dress up, and getting to dress up was always nice.

"Good," A.J. smiled at her a little bit; really, if he thought about it, he realized that her reaction was rather like what Beauty's would have been if he'd have asked her. An element of surprise and happiness at being chosen, as if he wasn't already with her. Although, technically, he wasn't really with Annette, but there'd been Sunday night...

He turned a little pink suddenly, and smiled lightly again. "I should...probably let you get back to practicing..."

If he was turning pink for the reason she was thinking, where her mind suddenly went at seeing it, then she probably should get back to cheerleading before she said something she shouldn't where anyone could overhear. Especially those pesky squirrels.

Instead she opted for, "Did you sleep good the other night?" Which, okay, wasn't exactly sublte was it?

"You mean, uh, Sunday?" A.J. asked. He'd asked just so that he didn't end up embarrassing himself, but then realized, as soon as he said it, that the question itself embarrassed him quite a great deal, especially with how quickly he asked it.

"Yeah, I meant Sunday..." she replied, fingers still entwined with his.

The blush intensified, but, at the same time, A.J. relaxed a little over the fact that he didn't have to feel like a tool for thinking that's what she meant. He bit his lip a moment as he looked over at her, and then nodded, slowly, with a soft smile. "Uh-huh," he answered. "Slept great. Except for one thing."

"One thing?" she raised her brows, worried now that she'd done something wrong. Oh no, did she snore? Steal the covers? Be a bed hog? She was a bed hog, she knew it.

Her cheeks turned red and she looked down.

That response was just way too predictable. A.J. grinned. "Yeah. That whole...morning thing, and you had to go to work and I had to go to class. I could have done without that part."

She glanced back up, surprised. If they weren't here, she'd throw her arms around his neck and squeeze tight. "Maybe next time the morning after will be more memorable," she dared to say in a small voice.

"Hey," A.J. said with a crooked smile, leaning his head in towards Annette. "I never said it wasn't memorable."

She grinned. "But the morning after was just sort of... I had to hurry up and leave."

"Okay, fine," A.J. said. "I guess I'll just have to let you make it up to me Thursday morning."

Her jaw fell slack before she thought to close it and she muttered before she thought she shouldn't, "I hope I can wait that long..."

Despite his best effort to hold it back, A.J. was left chuckling a little bit at that response, staving off a rather intense blush across his face. "Yeah, well. A whole two days, or something. How will you survive?"

She held up her finger, thinking. "But if it's the morning after, then that would mean Wednesday night... " she was blushing, furiously. "... and that's just tomorrow night and that would mean that possibly... after the art showing, that maybe... you're coming back to my room?"

Pause.

"'Cause you know, I don't have a roommate." That was very important to point out, even though she knew he already knew it. She just said it. Just cause. "Just sayin'." Uh.

A.J. bit his lip a little bit, although the slightly impish smirk could be seen without much of a problem at all, even through his blush, as Annette listed off all the things he'd already thought of.

"I know," was all he said, his smirk edging the comment. "And that was the idea, yeah."

Annette let out a little snort, grinning at him. "You're a quick thinker, A.J.," she teased, not willing to admit that it took her a little while longer to catch on to all that was passing between them.

"I was just momentarily distracted by... something or other."

"Don't worry," A.J. told, with a bashful sort of laugh. "I don't think I'd call it quick thinking as much as I would just a one-track mind."

But he hoped she wouldn't hold it against him.

Really, really hoped.

Tilting her head back slightly, she laughed and squeezed his hand before she replied, "And here I thought it was my heart you were after."

It was good to hear her laugh and, despite himself, despite the fact that she should be down on the gym floor with her teammates and practicing instead of being over here flirting with him, he leaned in a little too kiss her knuckles of the hand he held. Despite his usual self-doubt, hearing her laugh emboldened him. "Maybe I am; maybe I already did and all this is just...added bonus."

Her laughter winded down to just a satisfying smile at his kiss to her knuckles but his words affected her a great deal more. Annette whispered, "Don't tease me like that, A.J.," because part of her wanted very much to believe him, and the other part thought that yeah, he was just teasing her.

Well, if she didn't make teasing her so easy. Although he wasn't, really. A.J. gave her hand a light squeeze. "You should get back to practice, Annette..."

She nodded, curious now, and knowing he wasn't going to say much else about what he had just said. But she was happy anyway, because he did say it, teasing or not. Maybe he cared more about her heart than she thought and wasn't that thought wonderful.

"I'll see you tomorrow night then," though that just seemed so far away. Seriously. She supposed she would give Angel a bath tonight and preoccuy her time.

Looking around quickly, she looked back at A.J., and came up off her bleacher to lean in slightly to kiss his cheek.

And the kiss on the cheek got a pretty big smile out of him, if still a little crooked. "Get out there," he goaded her playfully, "and do a cool flip or cartwheel or something for me."

Bounding down off the bleachers, Annette did just that, doing a few backflips as she made her way back to the rest of the squad.
