The Lawn, Wednesday Afternoon

It was a nice day and there were finals looming. Naturally this meant John was attempting to nap in the sunshine, his French phrase book laying open on his chest.

Effective studying strategy? Probably not. But at least he was trying.

Jaina had been heading back in to the dorms, but she couldn't resist walking over to gently poke at his leg with her foot.

"I'm not sleeping, whoever you are," John said, not opening his eyes. He saw no point in being blinded by the sunlight.

"Not sure I believe you," she said, prodding him again.

He shielded his eyes from the sun to risk peering up at her. "Do I talk in my sleep normally?"

"All the time," she said, grinning down at him. "Really embarrassing things, too. You're lucky I don't gossip."

"Knowing the levels of embarrassment I've sunk to, I have to agree," he said, propping himself up on his arm. "What's the worst you've heard?"

She took a seat on the grass beside him, giving her time to think something up. "Besides the rampant declarations of adoration? Last week you talked like a pirate. Who really wanted pudding."

"Oh no! I didn't declare my feelings for the pirate on the radio, did I?" he teased. "That was supposed to be private..."

"I hadn't suspected. I would have rathered hearing it from you," she said mock-seriously.

"You know how it is with people with accents," John couldn't help grinning.

"So you're making up for my disappointment in that area?" They had weird conversations.

"Seems that way," he nodded. "Unless you had dibs." Which was sort of a nasty thought.

Jaina made a face and shook her head. "I didn't, no."

Sokka kicked at John. "MAN, that looks like a boring book."

John cracked an eye open. "It was boring up until I closed my eyes."

"It's in the wrong language, too," Sokka observed. "Just a point of advice: next time, try reading poetry."

"Probably for the best," John replied. "So, did you have a purpose interrupting my, um, studies?" Osmosis counted as studying.

"Why poetry?" John asked, curious where this was going to go.

"That was studying?" she asked with a raised eyebrow. "Not really. Just saw you there and needed to poke."

"This look like light reading?" he asked, holding up the phrase book.

"Not exactly, but I didn't think you were one for studying," she reminded him, peering at the book.

"Because poetry is AWESOME!!!" Sokka replied. Oh, yes, there were clearly hidden depths to his soul. "It just... you know... touches you deep inside, and... stuff. Poetry."

"You'd think right," John replied. "Which is why I shut my eyes for a few minutes there."

"Poetry...touches you deep inside?" John was mildly scared.
