Jaina told herself she'd claim one of the empty rooms tonight when she felt like getting some sleep, but let's face it. She wouldn't get any sleep at all even if she tried. So instead she camped herself out in the lobby, partly because she could see from where she was sitting what, if anything, was going on in what was left of outside, and partly because after years of being out of school (technically) taking over one of the common rooms felt weird.

She doubted the TV worked, and it wasn't like she had anything except a comm and phone that wouldn't work to distract her, so for the love of Pete, someone get down here and give her something to do that wasn't just trying not to think of what and who wasn't there anymore.

After attempting to walk to the school in order to open the library today, Blackagar discovered that those little creatures seemed to send you back to the dorms whenever they touched you. It had only taken two times for him to very gracefully stay where he was.

Eying the turtles as they marched on over the grounds.

He was just going to make a mental note to ban turtles from Attilan when he was king while he took a seat. It was a good plan.

It was hot. Far too hot to do anything productive, outside of making a blender's worth of strawberry margaritas. It was also far too hot for pants. It was cool enough, however, to hang out by the campfire pantless (but wearing boxers, much to his dismay) and with a blender's worth of margaritas. The fire wasn't lit, but it was a nice place to sit and attempt to get a tan on his pale Canadian legs.

The thing about Jaina's current situation was that she always felt like she had to be around people. It was beginning to get annoying. She took that as a good sign. And since she figured there'd be something wrong with her going to Caritas again, she headed out to the campfire, started a fire... and kind of regretted it because it was a little warm for that.

Whatever, there were marshmallows to be roasted and you couldn't do that over thin air.

[I cannot help it, she is all social lately. Open!]

If there was something Dimitri was good at when it came to camping, it was building a decent fire. He could even manage the part about sitting and staring at the fire while his mind churned through all the things he wasn't supposed to be worrying about. It wasn't emo, guardians didn't get emo, it was more an unfortunate awareness.

Clearly this was why God invented campfire food. And why Dimitri had gathered a pile of sticks and a bag of marshmallows.

In a week everything would be different. Back to a normal he didn't want to remember where his heightened senses would be of better use than determining just when his marshmallow was cooked to perfection. And a normal where he wouldn't allow himself to remember where he'd learned this particular method of burning marshmallows.

Dimitri sniffed the air. Acquired tastes be damned, his marshmallow was burnt as hell.

This was really weird.

Jaina didn't have the anxious, jittery feeling in the cabins that she used to. Some closure and time had done some good there. No, the weird part was that she was still in the cabins again. But it was this or singing insects and she'd already screamed at them twice before the announcement, so she figured she was fighting a losing battle there. It was just very strange going back to something she'd thought was fun at sixteen and then circumstances had sort of ruined the fun part.

Still, she could deal with it, and it wasn't going to stop her from getting a fire going and bringing out the makings for s'mores when she was pretty sure it wasn't going to be raining. When you'd been deprived of chocolate as long as she had, you found reasons to have it.

Bruce was at the gym, beating the living hell out of a punching bag. Nine years ago on this date, Bruce's life changed. Two years ago on this date, Bruce left Gotham to start training for a war on crime and hadn't been back since. He couldn't return until he was just about ready. Every moment until then was to be spent preparing for that day.

He called Alfred to make sure flowers were put on their graves and in Crime Alley per tradition. It hurt to not be there once again, but that was how it had to be for nowAnd so Bruce felt the need to take that hurt out on an inanimate object. It wasn't really making him feel better, but at least it served as a distraction. For now, for tonight, that was enough.

Ben still had a residual headache from the pounding music in Stark's earlier in the day, but he decided that it was nothing grilled sausages and marshmallows couldn't fix.

Besides, the weather was too nice out tonight to waste it by being indoors. Ben sat on a log next to the crackling fire, grilling a sausage with half his attention. The other half was focused on the stars.

It'd been too long since he'd flown.

So Jaina had said goodbye to two people already and so tonight there needed to be distraction. She might have been overdoing it a bit.

There was pizza for sharing, and a datapad in front of her that she was more or less ignoring for Space Battles on the TV. So sue her, she liked the movie. It was space and things blew up and she found the characters really easy to relate to for some reason.

Over the weekend, Jaina had accumulated a lot of spare parts that she had no idea what to do with. This happened when you were eight and in need of a homework droid. After a few days of deciding that she could do nothing with them, she brought them downstairs to add to the collection of parts she'd amassed over three years. And then once she was down there, she started tinkering with the bike, and then she just ended up putting coveralls over her clothes to do some of the real maintenance. It was just that kind of day, where you started out doing one thing and hours later you were so busy you couldn't remember what you originally came down here for. And then when she got up to get one of her tools-

"...I'm on a horse," she realized, not sure where it had come from or if it was going to go away anytime soon. Looks like doing something you hadn't planned on doing was just a theme for the day.

Bruce had been laying low the past few days. He had summer trips to finalize and child classmates to avoid. But now he had no good excuse. And so he made his way to the common room, found some basketball games on the TV, and watched. He couldn't figure out if he would need to really train at sports for his war on crime. There were some useful skills involved in them, and he certainly couldn't argue with the physical training, but it seemed like it would be better to get accustomed to watching the games so he could fake being a fan with whatever season tickets he could get as Bruce Wayne.

And since it felt appropriate to the sporting experience, Bruce made a bowl of popcorn. That way if anyone stopped by, he could at least offer some and prove that he was sociable.

Even though he had one more final tomorrow, Hannibal was out on the deck, celebrating the fact that he'd pretty much managed to successfully finish high school. The drinks, the music, the candles, and his energy pretty much signified that something good had happened at least.

Sure, he was steadfastly ignoring thoughts of graduation still but it was nice to know he hadn't completely bombed out of school like he thought he might do at one point. That called from some libations and music. No, he wasn't up and dancing but he was tapping a foot along to the beat while sprawled in a lounger. It was almost the same thing.

After last weekend, the students of Fandom were probably hoping for a nice, lazy weekend before their week filled with finals. Unfortunately, it could never be easy for people who lived on the island. Where there was once still and quiet, there was now a shrill fire alarm going off, blaring loud enough to even be heard by the deepest of sleeper.

Time to evacuate the dorms, students! And, once everyone started spilling out onto the lawn, they'd find that Fandom had another treat for them. It was warm, that was good, but at some point that night it'd started raining. And it wasn't just ordinary rain. It was raining chocolate syrup and occasionally hailing down marshmallows.

Just another typical late night out on the lawn of the dorms for a fire drill! Hope you brought your umbrella!

Jaina had managed to heal up the soreness and most of the bruising from Sunday, though she'd learned it was not yet time to get rid of the sling. Nor was it a reason to say she was going to try training just a little bit.

It'd been a rough lesson, let's say that.

So without training to do and no classes today, she was in the common room in front of the TV. Somehow she'd stopped on a Maury episode, and while she meant to change the channels, she was left staring at the people's reactions to all the paternity test results.

Helen took Kianah to the common room where the wee one would have a bit more room to run around like the 3 inch tall crazy fennec fox she was. It was amusing to watch her dash around, investigating everything and then periodically throw herself to the ground and rest before jumping up and dashing around again.

The TV was on, but Helen honestly wasn't paying much attention to it and wouldn't care if someone wanted to change it to something else.

It was sunny out, and the cold felt more like nearly spring to Rose than the middle of winter.  And it was sunny out which is what she was really looking for.  Sure, it'd be sunny all next week in the Bahamas and maybe she should spend her time packing instead, but the sun now was the point.

She stretched out on one of deck chairs, feeling the sun on her face.  She was trying not to think about anything.  Definitely not the past few weeks, definitely not wondering how it'd be to go back to living completely nocturnally again once she returned to Lissa, and definitely not what was going to happen with whatever understanding she and Dimitri had reached over the past few days.

Except as happened so often, between not actually doing anything and trying not to think about things, Rose found herself pondering all of them and paying less attention to the warm sun.  She so needed to get up and find a distraction.

Arthur wasn't strictly speaking in the right shape to really cut loose. He'd settled, grudgingly, for a lighter staff instead of his sword to train with. Even so, he was likely overextending some of his muscles.

He didn't like the limitations that came with being wounded.

He still had a few claw scratches on his face, but he'd been assured they would heal well enough and without scarring (which was a good thing, because he wasn't yet of the age where he could manage his father's dignified facial scars). Modern medicine or whatever it was they'd given him meant he wasn't going to wind up bleeding or anything.

So it was going to have to be enough. He twirled the staff through the air and started a simple form.

Jaina had gotten a bit of a clue-in as to what it was John was actually doing out there, and to say the curiosity was getting the better of her would be a severe understatement. So, naturally, she rented a random season of Wormhole X-treme and got a pizza and sat down to watch.

She still wasn't exactly sure how accurate this was or what exactly it had to do with anything, but there was a lot of "...Nuh uh" coming from the sofa as she watched anyway. And if this was what he was doing... yeah, she was still so jealous.

Having all of his classes tomorrow didn't mean Bod was going to stay in his room and make it an early night. He'd thought about taking another walk down to the graveyard but decided to save that for later in the week. There was time and Bod knew neither he nor the graveyard was going anywhere for awhile.

So, he'd wandered down the hall, book in hand, to the common room. Yeah, he knew he could have just closed himself in his room to read but the common room was bigger and had food. Food that Bod immediately started scrounging for. It was a little difficult to do considering he was holding his book open with one hand and reaching blindly into the refrigerator with the other. He'd pulled out the box of baking soda three times.

Putting the book down would have been easier, Bod knew, but not as fun. So, he kept trying. That box of baking soda got pulled out two more times.

So Jaina had talked to her mother today. No, not that one. Hers. She'd decided not to say anything as of yet. It wasn't so much that she thought she might take it badly; Leia knew what went on here, her husband, son and sister-in-law had all been here to see the crazy, and she took it all in stride. Honestly, she just wanted to have that conversation in person. Where she could have a picture of this Leia on her phone and show it to her mother all "I know what you were like."

Afterwards, she headed down to the salle, repaired remote in hand. Yes, she broke it the other day, shut up. She was better now. So was the remote, actually, now that she'd had a chance to improve on its basic design a little. Jaina set it up, unclipped her lightsaber from her belt, and was ready for the first shot, which came just a little faster than it used to.

Some people went out on Friday nights, she did this.

Just a few hours ago, the flamingoes had given up on their sudden, magical performance, and retreated to their usual perches for the night. The lights had gone out across Fandom Town, and so no one was awake to witness the start of the gentle tinsel snow. Glittering paper floated down, spreading across the fresh snow, coating it in shimmering colours. It was pretty, it was unnoticed, it was...

The fire alarm cut through the air without warning. The fragile peace of Sunday night shattered into tiny little shards, like a lunatic firing bullets into Christmas decorations with utter abandon. The tinsel? Kept falling. The alarm? Would not stop blaring. The firemen? Were out on the town. It was time for the annual 'strange weather' drill, and no man, woman, or angry pseudopod was going to dissuade them from ushering all the students away from the school.

As they rushed into the school, the tinsel kept falling. Enjoy, kids. We hope you stole a coat upon leaving, or you're going to be plenty cold.

Last weekend's trip to Taris had shown Zayne that he was still leagues behind his fellow Padawans. He was pretty sure he knew why his lightsaber skills weren't up to snuff. Despite training with different swords and practice swords made up to be similar to lightsabers, it wasn't the real thing.

Fortunately, Zayne had the real thing and a place to practice with the real thing. And that's why he could be found in the salle tonight, using a training remote Master Lucien had given him.

A couple days ago, Jaina had learned that John was dating again. The hurt was still there, and it was largely made worse that the fact that logic kept kicking in and she couldn't be mad about any of it... Well, no, she could be mad at Nancy. That was safe for her. Mostly she just felt bad about all of it.

Then today Jaina found out that the reason she hadn't been able to get a hold of her parents was because of a close call back home. It was her parents and she knew they'd be fine because they were them, but once she'd gotten off the call having heard the story, she headed down to the gym. It'd be nice to have a reprieve. She'd somehow actually gotten used to them, just periods of normalcy in the middle of the insanity that was her life, and now that she didn't get those, things got really close to overwhelming sometimes. Maybe she'd take her grandfather up on Thanksgiving no matter what.

And for now, there'd be doing some training. When she graduated, she might have to get a new one for all the damage she tried to do to this thing.

Jaina had decided to go home for the weekend, and at the moment, she was packed, caught up on everything she had to do for the moment. She came out to the common room, intent on dinner, then gave up after a quick search of the fridge and just ordered pizza. Really, she was going to spend a while eating military rations and something like gruel. She was going for something good tonight, even if there was way too much for just her.

And once channel surfing landed her on a Mythbusters rerun, she decided this was a pretty good way to spend a night before she had to go be all militaristic and professional.

So, Jaina was probably about to be single, and she was not having the best time with it at the moment.

It'd be so much easier if she could be mad at John, and right this second, she was. She was mad that he wasn't trying, that he left that message, that he was stuck so far ahead that she couldn't keep up. And a second after she was mad at him, she wouldn't be anymore. When it came down to it, none of it was his fault, either. No one had done anything wrong. But what else was she going to do, be mad at time? Well, fine, she was Jaina and she'd find a way to manage that, but right now she mainly felt unfocused, like she was flailing around being angry and hurt with nothing to really direct it towards.

Which was why the punching bag was suffering. She had to do something physical, because emoing her heart out all over the dorms was not her style, and while she wasn't in danger of doing anything dumb like breaking the bag, she even she'd be sore in the morning. But that was tomorrow, and she wasn't caring that far yet.

At least her form was looking really good.

So yesterday had been interesting for Jaina, between her brother being in town, and meeting another Luke from a time when Jaina wasn't really around, and hanging out with her alternate universe step-grandmother who she was going to pass in age soon and her three-month-old aunt, and kind of sort of flirting with another version of her boyfriend (was that wrong? She honestly had no idea), and then she'd listened to the radio and oh hey, more surprises there!

Jaina had a couple hours till she was supposed to meet Jacen and find out what fresh trauma had occurred, so she'd decided to start out with breakfast. Unfortunately her attempt at an omelet had turned into scrambled eggs that had still been runny and gross somehow, and adding things to it hadn't helped. She'd blame her culinary failure on stress, but the truth was that she just was a really bad cook.

As she surveyed the mess, she decided that know what, she was just going to have cereal and this would get cleaned up later.

There were chips and other snacks; soft drinks, with more interesting selections in a discreet cooler to the side; and a stereo playing music Jack didn't much care for, even though he knew it was popular.

Today, though, he found himself out on the deck, lounging in one of the chairs, feet up and sunglasses on. He thought he'd be able to fall asleep, get some sun but it wasn't happening. Still, that didn't mean he was going to give up his comfortable sprawl on the chair.

Well, he could move his arms to light a cigarette and stick it between his lips so he could blow smoke out lazily. Karla looked around and nodded in satisfaction. There was a big glittery banner that said "CONGRATULATIONS TAHIRI!" hung over one wall. She wasn't going to admit it, but playing the glue and glitter and paint had been a lot of fun. Though, with the residual glitter in her hair (and the occasional glittery hand print on the banner), someone might be able to tell.

There was one table completely devoted to ice cream (and wrapped in cold spells). The centerpiece was, of course, a giant ice cream cake with a frosted lightsaber on it. Karla couldn't make any guesses about how accurate it was, but there was a greyish hilt and a I was tempted to say red blue beam coming from the front. It was enough to get the point across, dammit. She'd had to explain to the Chilly Boulder guy what she meant by lightsaber anyway. Though he immediately knew who Ben and Tahiri were. The table wasn't entirely covered by ice cream, as Dinah had mentioned bringing some, too.

It's possible that there may be an ice cream shortage at Chilly Boulder tonight. Sorry.

In the kitchen, there was even more food; this time covered in warming spells. Mostly there were pizzas with a variety of toppings, but she'd also gotten some sides from most of the other restaurants in town. Someone wanted to have pizza with a side of lobster bisque and quesadillas? Totally not a problem. There were also a variety of drinks and, stashed away in the fridge, a few steaks and a chicken--raw, of course--for Blind Seer.

As far as she could tell, everything was done. And if not...well, they could cope. Now the only thing to do was wait for the guests to arrive.

...and try not to cut into the cake before they arrived. It did look good.

After a lot of work (some involving a showerhead, don't ask, and no not dirty) throughout the day, Jaina had decided she had to get out of her room for a while. So she'd just gone to the common room, made herself a sandwich, and started reading a report on her datapad with the TV on for noise.

Somehow she hadn't figured out that doing this was bound to distract her, and this was why she was staring at an episode of "I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant", looking seriously confused, datapad forgotten, and occasionally saying things aloud like "There is something wrong with you," and "What do you mean this is a series??"

There had been a couple talks lately that had made Jaina think that getting back into the garage was a good idea. She hadn't done much at all since she'd finished the hoverboard... nearly two years ago, which she didn't really like. It wasn't really something she'd meant to give up, especially if she couldn't work on the ships back home while she was here.

So she was in the garage, in grease-stained coveralls that were actually looser than they had been when she first got to Fandom, doing some routine maintenance on the swoop bike between calls she had to make for work. She was trying to multitask.

That would be a lot easier if she could find her hydrospanner. It was probably a good thing she hadn't seen the little blue things take off with it, lest she think they were oxygen-deprived gremlins or something.

It seemed lately that Jaina was always getting used to a new schedule. The scary thing was that she was starting to find it so much easier to do so. After class, she did some work and surprisingly found some time that she could use to get some training in.

After a warmup on the machines, Jaina took her usual place at the punching bag, more for the exercise than the actual practice. And after a few minutes of beating the hell out of it just because, she took a step back and muttered to it, "Let's hope you never turn temporarily human."

The fact that Jaina's muscles were still protesting after yesterday's workout was a huge sign that she needed to find someplace to practice her drills when visiting John. She couldn't even remember the last time she'd felt twinges like this.

Naturally this meant she was back in here today, determined not to let a few aches and pains get in the way of the fact that she'd really really missed training. She liked pushing herself, and she liked the feeling of having accomplished something, and the endorphins didn't suck, and even with three remotes set up, it was nice to know that she hadn't gotten so rusty that she couldn't take them on easily. Okay, so she hadn't been spending that much time at her cabin, but Tahiri was putting in an appearance tonight. There was a decent assortment of hot dogs and s'more fixings laid out as dictated by the Unofficial Official Law of Campfires, and a fire crackling away in the firepit.

As for Tahiri, she was sitting with her back against a log, not really paying attention to the datapad on her lap; she was more preoccupied with using the Force to idly create shapes in the smoke from the campfire. Spirals, vaguely animal-looking objects, anything really, but a lot of starfighters. She kept coming back to those, for some reason.

It was a quiet night. Just after midnight, a steady rain had started falling, drenching the island quickly and showing no sign of slowing. A few hours later, at 2am, the peace of the night was broken when the fire alarm started blaring. It would shrilly blare, stop and then repeat the same shrill blare two seconds later. And it was not going to stop until the all clear was given.

Thus, all the students had to carry their tired selves from their snuggly significant others or their snuggly beds to go wait IN THE RAIN on the dorm lawn. The fire department was making sure all the students were a safe distance away from the school so there were no awnings to hide under. All the students would be stuck out in the steady rain.

The fire department headed into the building but this could take awhile. Enjoy your fire drill, kids!

[IT'S FIRE DRILL TIEMS! Just remember it's raining but it's warm. Have fun! See here for fire drill details! And take a look here for our previous fire drill!]

After detention there had been some time to check messages and figure out if there was anything she needed to catch up on after spending her morning cleaning up alligator parts, and then she'd gone for the second shower. Her priorities were a bit skewed, but 'ew' was 'ew'.

Since she had some time on her hands, she settled into the common room of her apparently adopted floor with popcorn and her comlink on the table in front of her, flipping through channels and being really glad that Scifi's monster movies tonight had nothing to do with lizards.

[Omg people I have not actually played in TWO WHOLE DAYS. Seriously, no SP pings or ANYTHING. I need to post a CR to fix that. Open!
Oh, and it's Ogre and Grendel on Scifi tonight, if anyone is curious.Yes, I checked.]

Rose had gone for a run this morning which ended with her getting coffee down in town and walking back up to the campsite.

Now she sat outside of her cabin with coffee on one side of her and paper to maybe write a letter on the other side.  She wasn't paying attention to either though as she was kneeling in front of the firepit, trying to get the stupid thing to catch.  It should be that hard.  It didn't look that hard.  And yet, the flame kept sputtering out after a minute or two.

Arthur's dreams last night had been full of strange images of old, powerful wolves and golden lion cubs that he chose not to consider further. It was Morgana who got the nightmares, not him; he'd always slept fitfully and where needed.

Still, they had instilled a sudden restlessness in him, and rather than turn to the salle as he generally would, Arthur's travels brought him no further than the campfire that morning. He had no meat left of his last hunt, nor any furry fish to roast, so instead he sat down by the edge of the pit.

He did have some dried meat, and a few more dates he'd nicked off Leto earlier (well, not nicked. Commandeered. Requested, maybe, with implicit permission). They'd do for breakfast until Merlin showed up to get him enough for a proper one.

Bright and early, Fraser was back up on the sixth floor, already decked out in his snazzy hard hat. It fit his head much better than it fit his fellow supervisors.

"Good morning," he greeted those that had arrived. "As you can see, the wall is almost completely down and, luckily, there doesn't appear to be anything behind it but what the remnants of what once was the rest of the sixth floor. Before we push through, we're going to clean up the debris we've left behind when we took down the wall. There are wheelbarrows here to haul parts of the wall away. Please be careful as you do this. You're also welcome to take down the remaining parts of the wall to make our passage easier."

Fraser walked over to a long table and patted the hard hats and tool belts. "Please be safe. Wearing your equipment is mandatory. Once you're equipped, please get to work and find myself or Professor Dex if you need anything."

Even with Fight Club later tonight, Jaina just seemed to like the gym on Sundays. It tended to be a really lazy day, which meant that training just seemed easier with less pressure to do other things. So she headed down to the gym, testing out the punching bag a bit before she decided it was good enough to work with. And also that today's challenge was going to be breaking it in the way she wanted it, which she was all too happy to do.

Once the sun went down, a rather spectacularly large bonfire was lit for the party. No, Merlin was not aware it was now celebrated on the first of May. Calenders change, after all.

There was even a crudely constructed maypole there in case anyone felt the need to dance around it. They did so at their own peril, of course. The mockery that may ensue would probably be great.

Jaina still didn't want to be in the cabins. She'd gotten too used to privacy, too used to being able to spend time alone with her boyfriend, too used to having the time to get work done on her own schedule.

But she wandered out to the campfire when she had some free time anyway, figuring that at least radio would say she tried. Because she had no idea yet that she was doing it. When she saw no one out there, she considered for a moment going back inside, but she wasn't really capable of half-assing it that much, and tried to get the fire started anyway.

See? Totally trying.

[Open campfire is open!]

Knowing she was going to be taking another trip home, Jaina had spent most of her day handwavily prepping: flight sim, lightsaber drills (she remembered last time, thanks), and then was trying to catch up on reports in her room till her comlink finally began driving her crazy.

Knowing she was more or less going to be able to answer all those calls personally anyway, she took her datapad out to the common room to work, and after a couple minutes of silence turned on the TV for background noise.

So it was her own fault that she kept looking up surreptitiously from her work to see what was going on in the Space Battles movies. What? It was interesting.

[It's Star Wars Day, I had to. I also felt the need to mod cable. Open CR is open!]
