Lupus Campfire, Thursday Night

The rain was threatening, again, and the day was cool enough that Ella was wearing a cloak over her blouse and skirt. But she'd spent too much time reading in her alcove lately, and wanted to spend more time outdoors before they left the cabins entirely. She neatly built a small campfire, half-wishing she'd bought some marshmallows to roast over it. But that was a small matter.

She settled on a log by the fire, propped her chin on one hand, and let her mind wander as she watched the flames dance.

With so few days of campfire hopping left, Turtle was definitely sure to not let something like questionable weather stop her. She found herself bouncing over to Lupus, and bouncing a bit more when she saw who was there already.

"Ella, hi! We get to start being actual roommates soon!"

Which, really, better not turn out to be a bad thing, but Turtle tried to be an optimist about these things.

Ella took a moment to stop woolgathering, and bounced slightly back at Turtle. She was also trying to be an optimist about the room-sharing situation. "I know! And I've even learned how to work the electricity thingy now."

"The cabin stay went quickly."

"They usually do," Turtle admitted with a small, wistful sigh; she unceremoniously plopped down into a seat and took a slight glance around.

"Where's the marshmallows?" she noted. She knew something was off.

Sokka grinned at Turtle. "So... Is this some sort of acknowledgment that our campfire is cooler than yours?"

"No," Turtle said, after giving Sokka a bit of a look. "This is what we call networking. What's the point of spending excess time at my own campfire when I have to see those people every day in and about the cabin? It's important to expand your circle of contacts, Sokka, even if it means lowering yourself to hang out at campfires not as cool as yours. It's almost charitable, really."

"Turtle!" Rikku waved. "Can we really not ask why Jeff's not doing radio with you any more, or did you just say that to be all mysterious?"

Turtle offered Rikku a sympathetic smile. "He really did ask for me to not mention it to anyone," she admitted. "I'm sorry. He's sensitive about stuff like that sometimes, though."

Sokka plopped down. "Ella! Hi! Got any s'mores?"

"Turtle asked the same thing," Ella said. "I didn't see the marshmallows in the kitchen."

"And hi, Sokka."

"Now, see, that's a shame. What good is a fire without marshmallows, huh? Do we at least have bits of meat to put on a stick?"

"G-Good e-evening," Hinata greeted as she stepped over to the fire. "D-Do you mind s-some company?"

"Not at all!" Ella said, holding out the newly-recovered bag of marshmallows. "Hinata, wasn't it? How are you?"

She smiled. "Ella-san," Hinata nodded, "y-yes, I'm Hinata. I h-have been well, if s-slightly at a l-loss for how to o-occupy my t-time. And y-you? Have you b-been well?"

Sokka waved extra emphatically, trying to lead by example. "Shygirl! How's Fandom treating you?"

That got a rueful smile and she said, with as little stuttering as she could manage, "I've b-been well. How about you?"

"Oooooh, campfire!" Rikku bounced over to it. "Oh, man, I love the dorms and all? But I'm gonna miss this. Just ... starting a fire and having all kinds of people drop by."

"G-Good evening," Hinata said, offering a somewhat nervous smile at the other girl. "A-And, yes the f-fire's a-are nice."

"Hiya!" Rikku waved at the girl she didn't recognize. "I'm Rikku. You're not in this cabin, right? 'Cause if I just missed you and never said hi, that's kinda rude."

"It is nice," Ella smiled. "And Turtle made me look again, so I even found marshmallows."

"I'll miss hanging around like this when we're back in the dorms."

"Oooooh, score! Do we have enough for s'mores?" Rikku looked around hopefully. "I can totally scrounge up some chocolate if we need it. And there's always common rooms, at the dorms. Those are pretty fun, too. No fire or anything, but people hanging out anyway."

Sokka grinned. "We could figure out how to disable the sprinkle thingies on the ceiling and then start a campfire in a common room?"

"I think we'd get in trouble for that," Rikku laughed. "Besides, it'd be more fun to leave 'em on and bring umbrellas. Camping in the rain! In a common room!"

"Mind some company?" Cimorene asked, coming over to the campfire.

"Not in the least," Ella said, smiling up at Cimorene. "I even found marshmallows, if you need those."

Cimorene grabbed a few marshmallows. "I've been well. Enjoying the new country that Fandom threw us into. You?"
