Scorpius Campfire, Saturday afternoon

Rodney got hit in the head with a gumdrop as soon as he walked outside. He frowned at the sky for a moment before shrugging and going back inside.

A few minutes later, Rodney returned to the campfire armed with a large beach umbrella, a bucket, and a laptop. He set up the umbrella over a seat and placed the bucket just outside the covered area. After settling himself as comfortably as possible, he popped open his computer and began working. Periodically, he reached into the bucket and ate a random piece of candy. He wasn't all that picky about sweets so he really only paid enough attention to what kind of candy it was to make sure he didn't accidentally eat a lemon drop. That would be bad.

[Yes, Rodney does actually live here. His mun's He's just been antisocial. Campfire is open!]

"Candy's falling from the sign, I can't complain," John said, trying to keep things light.

"How've you been?" That was the real question.

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Wasn't that a loaded question?

Oh blast it--

"Myself, generally. Alive, mostly. I'm glad you're well. The candy has been... interesting, to say the least."

[identity profile] missed-the-gate.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"Glad you haven't changed into anything other," John replied. "You never can tell when that'll happen here."

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"There was the pony, but as it was an isolated incident, I didn't figure it bore mentioning. I don't suppose that happened to you, did it?"

[identity profile] missed-the-gate.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"I lucked out," John said. "Just to lull me into a state of comfort, I'm sure."

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"The pony--"

He paused and realized his own mistake.

"The Pony wasn't all that terrible, though. Four legs was disorienting, but at least we didn't lose the ability to speak."

[identity profile] missed-the-gate.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
John didn't know why Liir had paused. "Technically, don't you always have four legs?"

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, four limbs certainly, but we don't walk on all four of them generally."

[identity profile] missed-the-gate.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Must've been harder to scratch an itch, too," John added.

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
He grinned.

"Yes, that was a bit tiresome. Especially as I had wings.

"They were, despite their size, capable of flight, though. It made for an interesting time."

[identity profile] missed-the-gate.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"Now that could have been interesting. Were you just a pegasus or also a unicorn?" He'd seen a couple of those around that weekend.

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"Just a Pegasus," he said. "A Unicorn would have been very strange indeed. They're a strange breed, from what I've heard. I didn't see one that weekend, though. Hmm."

[identity profile] missed-the-gate.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, they have a weird thing for virgins, if myths are to be believed," John said. "I wondered if that caused any issues, but I wasn't really out much during the weekend."

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"I suppose it would have been difficult, with everyone at waist height to you," he said with a brief chuckle of his own.

[identity profile] missed-the-gate.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not everyone was a horse," John shrugged. "Though, I'm pretty used to hanging out with short people. What with Jaina being barely five feet tall."

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"She didn't look all that short to me," he said, "though to be fair, I was on the ground looking up so that's probably not a good measure."

[identity profile] missed-the-gate.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"Checking out my girlfriend?" John asked, face completely serious. Someone who knew him well might recognize the playful gleam in his eye.

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
He just looked confused. He didn't recognize the playful gleam, but he also didn't detect any actual anger.

"She just wanted to know why I was laying in the grass," he answered with a short shrug of his shoulders.

"She's very nice, though," he felt he should add.

[identity profile] missed-the-gate.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"She is," John said, cracking a smile because he couldn't not. "Why were you lying in the grass?"

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"It made me feel better."

For one, it was the truth. For another, he couldn't rightly figure out another reason he would have been doing it.

"I didn't have the, er, best trip to Oz the other weekend."

[identity profile] missed-the-gate.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, sorry to hear that," John cringed. He didn't mean to bring up sore subjects. "At least you're not there anymore."

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"And hopefully not again for some time, though I doubt I'll have the same trouble."

He smiled encouragingly. He had a rather awkward tendency to touch on painful subjects himself.

"I handled myself. But thank you for the concern."
