Andromeda campfire, Saturday afternoon

Yesterday had left Jaina with more serious thoughts than she wanted to have, so she spent her morning trying out different scenarios in the flight shed. She would have been mentally thanking Anakin for the key but she was still a little upset over that boyfriend-threatening thing, so there went that.

When she got back, she decided since it wasn't really raining rain, there was no harm in starting a campfire. Besides, the candy rain meant s'mores might be more interesting, so she brought graham crackers out from the cabin, too. Even a year later, the Turtles had made their impression.

[Yes I changed it. There was peer pressure. Open! Boooooooooooooooooooooored.]

Saturday meant a late start to plans. Any plans, although, really, the only ones Cal ever seemed to make involved the gym. Candy rain, however, was a pretty decent deterrent against those plans for a little while. Cal had been just outside his own cabin not long ago, watching it, until he was pretty sure that an M&M had almost blinded him. That called for going back inside and getting a baseball cap to wear before trying again for the whole gym thing.

But it seemed that distractions were the name of the game today, as he found another reason to pause and tilt his head when he spotted Jaina by one of the campfires.

"So you do exist outside of the gym," he commented.

"Hey," Cal pointed out, "I have a job." Yes, that was clear evidence. "And, come on, around this place, for all I knew you could have potentially been just this mysterious gym fairy whose main purpose was to make guys like me feel bad because there's this mysterious gym fairy who could easily kick my ass."

Cal shrugged. "Who really knows?" he pointed out. "That's what would have made you so mysterious."

He nodded his head toward the graham crackers. "Those for sharing?"

He hadn't thought it possible to be bored when candy was falling from the sky, but there John was, moving from one campfire to another. When he spotted Jaina, John wondered if he should fess up to his prank or wait for her to hear about it later.

"This is an improvement on rain," he said, starting off neutral.

"Or at least something that isn't completely loaded with sugar," Cal reasoned as he moved in to have a seat and some crackers. "Although, if any more gummi worms come down, I might not be able to hold back anymo--"

"Oooh." Cal interrupted himself a moment with an obvious idea. "S'mores with gummi worms in it!"

"Hi," he said, taking a seat. "You planning on cooking?" John glanced at the graham crackers and the fire.

"How could they not be?" Cal asked, prepping a marshmallow and keeping a light eye out for the right candy. "Gummi worms are one of nature's most perfect foods."

"Makeshift?" John wasn't sure he wanted to know. "Something wrong with the traditional or are you just too excited by the prospect of copious amounts of ingredients?"

"It can be a mistake to screw with the original," John said, smirking slightly. "Especially when we're talking about someone who doesn't make cereal."

"You have culinary skills?"

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, yeah," Cal said, nodding without a moment's hesitation. The hesitation came a bit later. "Well," he amended, frowning thoughtfully, "they do make these really neat gummi hamburgers and hot dogs that are pretty cool, too, but I wouldn't put those on a s'more."

"I fail at lying," he said sadly. "Maybe you should fix me one of these alternative confections and we'll call it cooking?"

Cal grinned a little; he might have been a bit too amused over the fact that it turned out he could make other people gawk over little things like that when it seemed a lot of the people went out of their way to make him gawk.

"Well," he asked, "in the case of the hot dogs, is there really that much nutritional value either way?"
