Second floor common room, Thursday night

It was summer, it was a week without classes, and they were still in Antarctica. Yes, Brooke was still pouting. Not only that, but when she plopped herself in the common room with a blanket and popcorn to veg out, she found the Travel Channel was showing a whole lot of beach programming.

"Sure," she grumbled. "Rub salt in the wound, why don'tcha."

Ned wandered down the hall to hopefully spend a quiet night not in his room. Instead, he found someone in the common room and she was talking to the television.

"It doesn't talk back." She might not know that.

"Talking to an inanimate object makes you feel better?" Ned asked.

Alex wandered down from the fourth floor in search of people to practice socializing with. "Can't this stupid island go somewhere warm?" he whined whined.

"Mexico!" Alex said. "Why can't the island go there?"

[identity profile] death-and-pies.livejournal.com 2008-07-04 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
"So...you're aiming to get in trouble?" Ned asked slowly.

[identity profile] laidanegg.livejournal.com 2008-07-04 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
"Trying to think warm thoughts?" Dick asked, walking into the common room and glancing at the TV.

"Only if they're girl islands, I guess," Alex mused. "Or maybe that's what happens to a volcanic island right before an eruption." He blinked. "Oh, no, this place is getting to me."

[identity profile] death-and-pies.livejournal.com 2008-07-04 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Is it just televisions you have something against or...all things?" Ned asked curiously.

"There's a Travel Channel?" Ned asked, frowning at the television.

[identity profile] death-and-pies.livejournal.com 2008-07-04 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Person I room with," Ned said, nodding at Dick. "Good to see you're not a rock anymore."

[identity profile] laidanegg.livejournal.com 2008-07-04 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
"Send them a rabid penguin from me, too," Dick suggested.

[identity profile] laidanegg.livejournal.com 2008-07-04 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
"Hey Ned," Dick said. "I never thanked you for making sure I was safe that weekend. I appreciate it."

[identity profile] death-and-pies.livejournal.com 2008-07-04 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, no problem," Ned said, resisting the urge to scuff his feet. "I almost took you with me but didn't want you falling out on the way or something. And closets protected you better than I ever could."

"Islands used to stay put in the future," Alex said petulantly.

[identity profile] laidanegg.livejournal.com 2008-07-04 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Doctor Frederic Wertham disagrees about closets. No, it was definitely a good call. I doubt I could've helped much, being a rock and all."

"Unless somebody needed something to throw."

"You know, I think I'll just pay somebody twenty bucks to do it for me," Dick said. "But keep your phone handy, just in case."

[identity profile] death-and-pies.livejournal.com 2008-07-04 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
"Uh. Boarding school," he answered, shrugging. "We didn't have a television."

[identity profile] death-and-pies.livejournal.com 2008-07-04 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
"I ran into a Sphinx," Ned said, thinking about it. "I think she would've eaten you if I'd had thrown you. And then I'd have felt terrible."

[identity profile] laidanegg.livejournal.com 2008-07-04 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
"The key is to not throw your roommate at the sphinx's mouth," Dick said. "If we're ever in that situation, aim for the leg."

[identity profile] death-and-pies.livejournal.com 2008-07-04 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
"Well." Ned thought they did but he wasn't going to share that. "Um. Maybe it was just hidden or something. I just never watched it."

[identity profile] death-and-pies.livejournal.com 2008-07-04 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
"Her leg was pretty big," Ned said, frowning in thought. "Wouldn't that just make her angry?"

[identity profile] death-and-pies.livejournal.com 2008-07-04 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
"I really didn't miss it much," Ned admitted. "I never watched a lot of television. It was...kind of boring when I was younger."

[identity profile] laidanegg.livejournal.com 2008-07-04 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
"Not if you hit her in just the right place," Dick said. "Hit anyone right and they'll go down."

[identity profile] death-and-pies.livejournal.com 2008-07-04 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
Huh. He'd never thought of it that way.

"Next time," Ned decided. "You didn't trip over anything in the closet, right? I mean, when you got big again."

[identity profile] death-and-pies.livejournal.com 2008-07-04 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
"I...don't have one of those either," Ned admitted, now feeling kind of stupid.

[identity profile] laidanegg.livejournal.com 2008-07-04 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, I fell over, but I got out okay," Dick said. "No bruises or anything."

[identity profile] death-and-pies.livejournal.com 2008-07-04 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, good." Not that Ned had hoped otherwise but he'd never woken up in a closet before. "I'm glad I didn't put you in a drawer."

Alex peered out the window vaguely Antarctica-ward. "Here, or anywhere else on the planet?" he asked pointedly.

[identity profile] death-and-pies.livejournal.com 2008-07-04 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
"Why?" Ned asked.
