Cheerleading -- Gym, Tuesday After Workshops

Savannah headed to the gym after workshops were over to set up for cheerleading practice. She was definitely in a better mood than she was last time and was bouncing around as she made sure things were in place.

She dragged out the practice mats and set up the tables for snacks and the sign in sheet. Once everything was in its place, she turned on the music and began warming up as she waited for the rest of the squad.

Rikku was here, looking impatient. There were polar bears to go looking for!

Chad was, of course, stretching, because it was still as important as ever.

Johnny was there, watching a certain cheerleader.

The first rule of any DUCk operation was to get familiar with your surroundings and know the role you had to play; it was the key to success if you expected to survive a long-term assignment. (The assignments themselves weren't necessarily lethal, but the way Darcy Parker ran her organization the consequences of failure most definitely were.) This wasn't a DUCk operation and Katchoo wasn't playing a role, but sometimes it was comforting to fall back on procedure. She gritted her teeth at that thought; she didn't like the reminder that no matter how much she tried to leave that part of her life behind, it had its claws in her and wouldn't let go.

Nevertheless, getting familiar with her surroundings was going to be a necessity no matter what, especially if she was going to be here for any amount of time, so Katchoo had been wandering the dorm and school building all day. It was afternoon by the time she made her way down to the gym, and when she arrived her jaw nearly dropped.

"Not a normal school by a long shot, but there's still a cheerleading squad," she muttered, standing in the doorway. "Figures."

Rikku waved happily to the girl standing in the doorway. "Hiya!" she bounced. "Are you new here?"

Oh, God, she was perky. People that perky, as far as Katchoo was concerned, should be outlawed.

She nodded briefly, a single short jerk of her chin.

"It's really nice here," Rikku continued, either oblivious to the other girl's distaste or ignoring it entirely. "Are you gonna hang out and watch practice?"

"Aw, what the hell, maybe for a few minutes. I got nothing better to do at the moment," Katchoo replied, although a faint tic of her left eyebrow suggested that maybe the inferior options had more promise at the moment. Hell, maybe if she said she'd watch, this girl would go back to practicing and be perky at other people instead.

"So where are you from?" Rikku asked, bouncing lightly on her toes. "Are you adjusting okay? Fandom's kinda weird, but it's pretty safe and all that."

Rikku, sadly, loved to chatter. Even to people who didn't actually want her to talk to them.

Katchoo remembered sneaking over to Francine's bedroom window after dark and having caught a glimpse, one night, of Mrs. Peters's shrill little yip-yip dog. She was actually rather forcibly reminded of that right now.

"Lots of places," she said evasively. "Hawaii, last."

Oh great, that was probably not the best thing she could've said.

"Ooooooh." Rikku nodded. "I've heard it's pretty there, but it has volcanoes, doesn't it? The island was near one of those a few weeks back, and it sucked. Huge storms and everything smelled bad and good thing we got out of town before it went off, you know?"

As the girl, whom Katchoo had just dubbed 'Muffins' in her head, rattled on, Katchoo thought she felt her eyes glazing over a little.

"Volcanoes do more of a blowing thing than a sucking thing, actually," she said, and kind of desperately wanted to beat her head into the doorframe.

"It looked way more 'incinerate' than either," she pointed out helpfully.

There went that eyebrow tic again. "Whatever," Katchoo mumbled. "It's only the Big Island that's got active ones anyway thank you o most distracting Wikipedia."

"This must have been a smaller one," Rikku shrugged. "It went KABOOM and I thought we were toast."
