Third Floor Common Room: Afternoon

In between bites from a giant sized bowl of Chocolate Frosted Sugar Bombs, Ron would be seen smashing the keypad of the remote in an effort to find something decent to watch.

Eventually he settled on the BBC and watched in horror as two British women attempted to clean what had to be the most disgustingly dirty house he had ever seen.

"Bloody hell. That's actually someone's carpet?"

Perhaps eating food while watching this show was a bad idea.

"Unless humanity outlaws all fun things, I think there's a sliver of hope left," Jen said, thinking of her junk food-free future. "They might still need lessons in basic hygiene, but there's some hope."

She glanced at the screen and cringed. "Extensive lessons in basic -- what is that?"

"I wonder if --" Jen touched the minute device behind her right ear to activate her scanners, which promptly made a tiny whining sound and retracted again. "Well, I guess we may never know."

"The amazing disappearing sunglasses? They're supposed to help me identify things like unfamiliar life forms," Jen admitted, "even though I have no idea if they'd work through the TV. They haven't worked completely right since I came through the vortex to get here, anyway."

There was, if he could see it, a very slim, curved piece of matte-finish grey material behind each ear. "Not magic. Just thirty-first century technology." She paused. "With late twentieth century style, I've been told."

"They probably cost a lot, but they were standard issue for what I did back home, so I didn't pay for them," Jen explained. "But they've been useful."

As sunglasses, more often than anything else these days.

"Police. I was, anyway. Still technically am," Jen answered. "It's a long story."

". . . wizards have police?" Jen supposed it made sense, but it'd never occurred to her before. "What kind of wizard crimes do you get?"
