the gym - sunday morning - 7/13

Liir was rather pleased to be the first one to the gym today.

He put down his bag, settled his broom on top of it and left the prototype staff on the top of the pile as he'd need Ino there to test it out and let him tweak it properly. As he started in on his warm up, though, he promised himself they wouldn't get TOO sidetracked today.

He'd been a kitten last week, after all, and he had time to make up for.

"Were you going to come over or should I be on my way after a bit of practice?" he teased with a faint smile as he caught her with her magazine.

She stuck her tongue out at him. "Nuh huh," Ino insisted, shoving the magazine shut. "Totally just waiting for you to finish."

"Oh? So I should keep the prototype staff to myself then?"

He was in a pretty good mood.

"...no?" Ino wibbled at him. Staff!

He pointed to the long, sanded branch on the ground near his things.

"You won't be getting a broom," he said, "since I couldn't figure out how to make one. Instead, I had to make something that was completely, well, slightly different."

He swung down and swept it up in one hand before holding it out to her.

"It's not been treated to do everything the real one will be and it needs significant work still before I'd say it should be used, but I wanted to see if I'd gotten the controls to work right."

Magazine? Magazine was abandoned as she bounced over to him, reaching for the totally-a-broom-even-if-he-said-it-wasn't.

"Will it fly already?" she bubbled.

Ino was... more than a little excited over any bit of her totally-a-broom-even-if-he-said-it-wasn't. Yes.

"It can float," he said carefully. "I haven't adjusted it for carrying anything. There's a strange sort of quirk when it comes to something like this between being able to hold it's own weight in the air and carrying something. It's just a technicality, but it's one I'm still having a little trouble with."

He blushed just a little.

"But everything else should be functional. So I'd like to see if the steering and such work."

She bounced. It was progress! One step closer to her flying, seriously.

"So just channel chakra to my hands, right?"

"Just channel the chakra to your hands and try and sort of direct it. Tell it up and down, left and right, faster or slower."

He hoped it worked.

Ino really hoped it worked.

She closed her eyes, just so she didn't get too fretful while watching the broom-that-totally-was, and concentrated her chakra to her hands.

...Up?, Ino thought at it.

The staff tipped up and rose slowly.

Liir was beaming.

Ino peeked when she felt the staff move.

...and most certainly did not squeal delightedly. Totally not. Honest.

Really!

...Okay, maybe a little. Or a lot.

Left!

The front of the handle turned to the left even as it leveled off. Up had turned to left, after all.

Liir was bouncing on the balls of his feet.

It was taking quite a bit of her control not to bounce like a mad mad thing at the fact that she was controlling her broom-that-totally-was.

Ino considered it for a moment, then tried: up and right?

Up and to the right, in a diagonal and everything.

"It won't break," Liir said quietly, "it won't burn, it won't work for anyone but you."

...

And there'd be a little sister flinging herself at him to hug him ridiculously tightly with the broom-that-was still in her hand. This was awkward, but she managed it without hitting either of them in the head.

That was probably for the best.

He hugged her back, his arms squeezing tight.

"Best brother ever," Ino informed him, still clinging.

"I do my best," he murmured into her hair before dropping a kiss there.

She beamed up at him. "Your best is pretty good," Ino told him.

He laughed.

"Well, then, I'm glad I've found another skill."

"Being an older sibling," she nodded. "Clearly a terribly useful skill to have."

"Incredibly," he agreed. He left another kiss in her hair before looking around.

"Well, should we get on with practice, or did you want to play with it some more?"

Up! Was the gleeful thought, and Ino watched over his shoulder as her broom-that-was moved.

He chuckled as he watched her eyes.

"Can we try one more thing if we're going to be playing with it a bit?"

[intraspective]

"What?" Ino asked curiously, still watching her broom-that-was move. Down.

He pointed to the ground.

"Put it down. Then hold your hand out, with a touch of chakra, and think a direction."

[intraspective]

Ino was totally not making a face at being told to put down the broom-that-was. Totally not. Except for how she was.

Still, sulkily, she put it down, held her hand out and gathered a small bit of chakra in her hand.

Right?

The staff lifted a couple of inches off the ground and turned right.

It was at this point that Liir decided that it was perfectly reasonable to jump into the air and give out a grand WHOOP! no matter how foolish he looked.

Ino was, uh, more with the gaping at her hand and then at the broom-that-was.

And blinking. A lot.

Up and left!

And like a dutiful dog, the staff lifted up and to the left, lifting higher and higher until it was near level with her head.

Liir was actually dancing.

Ino was... well, words had fled her, but total glee was bright in her eyes and her hand trembled as she kept a wee bit of chakra flowing to it.

Circle?

Slowly, the staff flew in a circle.

And Liir just watched.

Ino glanced at him, eyes wide. "How high can it go right now?"

"Right now," he admitted, "it'll only go a few feet from you before it's out of range. The final version should be as long as you're within eyecontact."

[intraspective]

"It can't brush the ceiling yet then, huh?" But she was beaming as she carefully directed the broom-that-was to go in a circle around her.

"Not yet, no.

"And it can go faster, as you like. Just tell it to."

Well now.

That was totally a challenge.

Ino narrowed her eyes at the broom. Circle really, really fast.

And it did. And Ino was just going to be very very gleeful about this all.

He just sat down and leaned back.

He was quite happy to let her have her fun.

Ino was... probably going to keep herself occupied with it for quite a while, really.

After a bit, and nearly forgetting that she had an audience, Ino was moving the broom-that-was around while she moved at the same time. And laughing, just for the fun of it all.

He flopped out on the ground with his arms behind his head and just watched.

It was good to see her happy.
