The Gym: Friday Late morning [7-18-08]

Helen was there, waiting for Rodney. And, as promised, wearing relatively skimpy workout wear. While she waited she stretched out well and contemplated how she might get him down here if he didn't show. She wondered how he'd feel about an invasion of spiders.



[OOC: Helen's waiting for Rodney, but the gym's open and she's free for interaction with anyone.]

Cassandra stuck her head in to make sure Cal wasn't in the gym before she walked in. He wasn't, so she did.

Helen looked up, didn't recognize the girl, but nodded an acknowledgement just the same.

Cassandra offered a wave. Then, after a moment, tossed in a "Hi".

"Hello," Helen said, still stretching out.

Head tilting first to one side, then the other, Cassandra asked, "You're new?"

"I am, yes," she said. "I am Helen Haras-Uquara."

A small smile of greeting flashes across Cassandra's face. "I'm Cassandra."

"Hello, Cassandra," Helen replied. "Are you new as well?"

She shook her head minutely, "Almost a year."

Helen nodded. "Then you are familiar with all of these... things." She'd never seen anything like some of the machines before.

Cassandra nodded, "Yes. Do you want an explanation?"

Helen nodded. "Yes, I would appreciate that greatly. It seems a waste to have all of this here and not use it due to ignorance."

A quick tour followed. Cassandra used words sparsely, generally preferring to demonstrate when she could. She finished up and looked over at Helen, "Any questions?"

Rodney reluctantly dragged himself into the gym. He'd only been there a time or two and never to workout so this was a new experience. Upon seeing Helen, he announced his presence.

"Good morning, Rodney," Helen said. "Come over and I will show you how to stretch out before we run."

"I knew I'd have to do more than run," he grumbled as he went over. Rodney did understand the importance of stretching, theoretically, but he still felt the need to complain.

"We could skip it if you wished, but I think you would regret it," Helen said. She was working hard to be on her best behavior as she wanted to make sure he'd continue the program for the full week.

"Let me show you some quick and easy stretches," she offered, demonstrating.

"No, no, I don't want to regret this anymore than I already will," he said. Rodney watched Helen's demonstration and and awkwardly copied it.

"Good," Helen said. She reached out, then hesitated. "May I have permission to touch you? To help with the stretching?"

"Uh, sure," he agreed and tried to relax so that she could position him properly.

She gently but firmly shifted him to a better position. "There," she said. "Try that now."

"Okay, here goes." Rodney managed to do the stretch a bit better this time. "Is this right?"

"Much better," Helen said warmly. "Just a bit more and then we can run. You will be out of here in no time."

"That's the first good thing I've heard all day," he muttered as he continued with the stretching.

"All right," Helen said. "Up and shake out a little and we'll start the run. We can either use one of these fancy machines or run handwavey times around the gym. Personally, I recommend running around the gym. It is easier to see how much you have left to go."
