The lawn in front of the dorms, Wednesday morning

River lay on her belly, staring down at the grass, the tip of her nose almost touching the tallest blade. Mumbling to herself, she counted those making up a path for an ant struggling with a heavy burden. It wasn't important, not really, but reminded her of space travel.

"Are you quite alright?" Viki asked curiously, on her way back from the gym, and kneeling down to better glance at the girl.

"Not quite like space," River said, looking up. "Still vast."

"The grass?"

River smiled and gave a small nod. "I'm a River winding through the grass like a snake."

"I'm nothing so exciting," she said, kneeling in the grass. "Just Viki, which is better than the Viki-Turtle I was this weekend, even though that wasn't all so bad, as it was quite interesting but still. Just Viki."

"Not less exciting than a River." She pushed herself up to sitting on her knees, facing the other girl.

"That's really a matter of opinion, I think," she said thoughtfully. "I mean, to me Just Viki is good enough but not that exciting, but to you I'd imagine that Just River is about the same, whereas Just Rive is much more exciting to me."

River frowned a little. "Can have too much of excitement." Then she smiled again, and stuck a hand in her pocket, pulling out an orange and offering it to Viki.

"Can you tell when there's too much excitement?" Viki asked, taking the orange. "Thank you. Would you like a lime in exchange?"

"A matter of personal preference," River replied, then gave another nod. "Yes, please."

"I suppose that's true enough." Viki tugged one out of her bag, and offered it to River. "I found it on my desk this morning, it was quite odd really."

"Fandom oddness." River took the fruit and pulled a knife out of her other pocket. She began to cut the peel into segments.
