Adorable Panda Campfire, Tuesday Morning

The campfire was exactly where Ella thought it would be when she stepped out of the cabin.

These days, that counted as a miracle, and Ella was grateful for it as she settled on a stump near the firepit, planning to boil some water for tea and perhaps make some toast.

Then she realized each individual piece of firewood had been individually wrapped in layers of bubblewrap, as had each teabag, the matches, and each slide of bread.

"This might take longer than I expected," she noted aloud.

Before saying anything to the girl at the campfire, he looked around and said to no one in particular, "This isn't where I meant to go. What the hell."

"It's the Adorable Panda campfire," Ella told the (rather rude, in her opinion) boy. "I felt lucky that I did find it so easily."

"Adorable Panda?" He blinked. "I was...headed into town and now I'm here. I didn't even get drunk last night. Hi, hello, sorry about that. I didn't mean to end up here and it confused me."

"Adorable Panda," Ella echoed. Just because the name wasn't really bad enough if you only said it once. "I think the island's been doing that. Yesterday I was trying to get to the beach and I ended up back in the school building more times than I can count."

She waved. "I'm Ella, by the way. You're welcome to some breakfast if you want to unwrap it."

"Hannibal King," he said, getting over his confusion to peer at the wrapped breakfast. "That's...new."

"It's some kind of plastic something," Ella said, holding up a neatly wrapped teabag so he could see. "It must have taken hours, whoever did it. They got every teabag in the box."

"It's bubble wrap," he laughed. "I used to love that stuff as a kid. Give it to a kid now and they'll be busy for hours."

John had been trying to return to his alcove when he found himself outside. "Huh. Guess my stuff's not the only stuff in bubble wrap." He scrapped his mental plans to get Gavin back. Sorta.

"Morning!" she greeted. "My alcove was fine, but someone made sure breakfast would be very well-protected," Ella said, gesturing to the tea and toast. "Perhaps the island was worried I'd burn myself on the fire."

"Huh, maybe it thought I shouldn't try to save myself from tooth decay," John wondered. "You known for burning yourself?"

That got a tiny smile. "I used to be horribly clumsy," Ella said. "it's been trained out of me. Somewhat."

"Leave it to the island to remind us of this stuff," John said. "Though I'd take bubble wrap over turning into an adorable panda any day." Muahahaha!

Ella quailed. "Has that happened to anyone in our cabin yet?"

It seemed entirely possible.

"Not that I know of," John said quickly. "I heard Aravis was some sort of cat, though."

"No more beach?" Hannibal asked, smirking at John.

John smirked in return, "My lease was up."

"Too bad," he said, shaking his head. "Was a happenin' place for a bachelor pad."

"Yeah, I found a nice spot there for a while," John replied. "You could always go claim it."

"Well, there's just one thing," he said, holding a finger in the air. "I hate the possibility of sand in pants. No one looks attractive trying to get it out."

Jack was not expecting a campfire. He was expecting to be at the Photo Hut, or on the pathway there, so he was mighty confused. Moreso than normal, even. He waved.

Ella waved back. "Where are you trying to go?"

"The Photo Hut. I'm supposed to be at work today! I don't even know where I am. This isn't my cabin." He sighed and looked around. "If only I could get pointed in the right direction."

"Well, this is Adorable Panda," Ella supplied. "And I think town is down that path and to the left?" She looked at him apologetically. "I don't know exactly where the Photo Hut is."

"Well, that's a start, at least. Seems no matter where I go, I end up not where I want." He flashed her a grin. "Thanks for the help. Adorable Panda?"

"I know," Ella said, making a face. "It could be worse, though. It could be icklest koala or cuddly wuggly bunny."
