Fourth floor common room, Monday morning

Dean didn't have any classes today and figured he could start off the term by making breakfast for whoever happened by. And if no one happened by, then there'd just be a lot of food for him to eat.

Really, there wasn't any bad here.

The good things about living near the common room was being able to smell when someone was cooking. "Morning," Gwen said cheerfully as she came into the common room.

"Hey," Dean greeted her. "Food?"

"Yeah, thanks," Gwen said, smiling. "It smells good."

"It's breakfast," Dean said as he dished her up a plate. "Not exactly rocket science. Though around here, I guess it's not out of the realm of possibility that it suddenly becomes rocket science somehow."

"Oh, you'd be surprised," Gwen replied, taking the plate. "I've known more men than I could name who consider leftovers to be a staple breakfast."

"They certainly can do in a pinch," Dean said, proving he was indeed male. "But when you have a whining little brother you have to feed, you expand your horizons."

"Quite handily too it seems," Gwen said, tucking into her food. "You do your own laundry too?"

Dean nodded. "Even know tricks to get ecotplasm out without ruining the clothes."

"Oooh, nice," Gwen grinned. "Any idea if that works for alien slime too?"

"Not sure," Dean said, cocking his head to the side. "I haven't really deal with a lot of aliens and most of them haven't been the slimey type. But ooky gunk is ooky gunk so it might."

"Great," Gwen replied. "You wouldn't believe how hard that stuff is to get out. Especially if you were wearing white."

"Dark colours are probably better for hunting things that have ooze and slime."

"Well, you know, sometimes you're not actually the one hunting."

"Oh," Dean said, nodding knowingly. "Yeah, hard to dress for being a target when you don't get advanced warning.

"Tends to happen at the most inconvenient times too," Gwen added. "Birthday parties, weddings, that kind of thing."

"Evil tends to not wait for an invitation."

"And there's really nowhere you can seat it. Well, except maybe with your mother-in-law."

"I've heard that often that's evil and mother-in-law are one and the same."

"Yeah, that sounds about right."

"Not that I've had any personal experience with in-laws yet."

"Oh, no, me neither," Gwen lied through her teeth. Dealing with Rhys's mother was the one thing she didn't envy the version of her back in Cardiff one bit. "Just the whole idea of them, you know?"

"Yeah," Dean agreed. "Still... stepmothers are supposed to be evil too and mine's actually pretty awesome. So I guess there are exceptions."

"I guess," Gwen agreed. "Not that I'm in any hurry to start searching for a new mother-in-law."

"Well generally it's not in-laws you go looking for. They kinda just come along with relationships. Kinda like a gift with purchase."
