Fourth floor common room, Monday morning

Dean didn't have any classes today and figured he could start off the term by making breakfast for whoever happened by. And if no one happened by, then there'd just be a lot of food for him to eat.

Really, there wasn't any bad here.

"Can be sometimes," Dean said, thinking of a few occasions with a fond smile.

Inara smiled back, understanding his look completely. "It occurs to me that I don't know your name."

"Dean Winchester," Dean said. "And you are? Other than beautiful?"

She tried not to eyeroll. "Inara Serra. Are you a new student?"

"I've been here for two years."

"Well. This is certainly embarrassing," she said, "as I've been here for one."

Dean cocked his head to the side. "I've heard your name -- my brother and I do radio -- but I guess we've just never crossed paths before."

"I don't listen to the radio much," she admitted, head down slightly, "I'm afraid I don't always find the reporting completely...accurate."

"That's what happens when your reporters are a bunch of drunken squirrels," Dean said with a shrug. "Still, you can usually get the gist. Just need to read between the lines."

"I spend too much time reading between the lines already," she told him, stacking the toast onto plates.

"Well, if it helps, I always thought you've come off as a totally classy lady on the radio."

"Now I sound geriatric," she laughed. "I don't think that was my intent either."

"Nah, just someone who you wouldn't expect to, say, go on a paintball rampage."

"It would help if I knew what paintball was."

Dean chuckled. "It's a non-leathal ammunition you can use for war games and such."

"War games? You mean, people practice war for fun?"

"Well yeah, that's how it developed," Dean said. "But... think of it more like a different type of tag."

Inara looked at him, completely confused. "Tag?"

"You don't know tag?"

"Should I?"

"It's a kid's game," Dean explained. "I kinda thought it was universal..."

How to explain that she'd never really been a child? "I'm from another galaxy, centuries in Earth-that-W...Earth's future. There may be differences."

Dean nodded. "I know a little about that. My step mom's from there too. I just didn't figure tag would've died out."

"Who's your stepmother?" Inara asked, not having put things together yet. "I had a very regimented childhood."

"Zoe Winchester."
