Third Floor Common Room, Monday Evening

It had definitely been an... interesting couple of days for Firekeeper since her rather unexpected arrival. Much of Sunday and Monday had been spent exploring and hunting (they'd avoided the strangely-colored deer, however), and of course sleeping, because as the old wolf proverb went: "hunt when hungry, sleep when not, for hunger always returns."

Now, though, Firekeeper and Blind Seer were lounging on the couch in the large room that seemed to belong to no one in particular, staring at the big black box that was apparently the centerpiece of the room and wondering at its purpose.

This wasn't Tahiri's floor, but that didn't stop her from wandering in. It was still weird, living in a school building with amenities a few stars higher than 'ancient Masassi temple' in the intergalactic AAA travel guide.

"What's so fascinating?" she had to ask.

"All seating is arranged around strange box," Firekeeper shrugged. "There must be purpose for this thing, but we cannot figure."

Tahiri moved toward the TV, eyes narrowed, and looked it over until she found a prominent button on the front. The TV screen lit up, about halfway into the season finale of Go-Between-Guy, not that either Tahiri or Firekeeper was likely to know that.

"Huh," she said, sitting back on her heels. "Looks like a really old clunker of a holovision set."

Firekeeper couldn't help the yelp of surprise when the... thing... seemed to spring to life, scrambling backwards a bit on the couch and thoroughly jostling Blind Seer in the process.

"What is?" she exclaimed.

While this was not Naomi's floor, Naomi was in the mood to be social so she found herself wandering up to the third floor, "hi," she said.

"It's okay, it's okay!" Tahiri turned and held out a placating hand. "It's not going to hurt you. It's just a moving picture, that's all."

"Hi," Firekeeper nodded back at the new arrival, giving the horns a curious glance. Blind Seer, for his part, lifted his head and whuffed a greeting at Naomi.

"Moving picture?" Firekeeper echoed, squinting at the screen.

Naomi gave a smile, "I'm Naomi Wildman," she introduced herself.

"Blysse," Firekeeper pointed at herself. "Is Blind Seer," one hand lightly slapped the shoulder of the wolf sprawled behind her.

Oooh, someone who didn't look as completely human as everyone else she'd seen so far -- Tahiri felt a little bit more at home.

"Hey," she answered with a slight nod.

Dor was wandering about doing some exploring when he came across people in the common room and waved as he came in.

"Hi. Is this open for everyone?" he asked.

Then there was a snort of derision from the couch. "It's a common room doofus. Everyone can come in here if they want."

Dor frowned and glared at the couch. "I was just asking."

Francine wasn't on her on floor either, but her own floor's common room was dark tonight, and there was tv noise coming from below, so she made her way down the stairs.

Recognizing at least one familiar face, she waved a little shyly and poked her head in the door. "Hi!"

"Hi," Naomi smiled, nodding in response.

"Some kind of holodrama." Tahiri eyed the program thoughtfully. "Sort of. I think. But it won't attack you."

"It's nice to meet the both of you," Naomi said, "how long have you been here?" Naomi was sure she hadn't seen them around before, but then there were still some people who had been at Fandom for a while and she hadn't met them yet.

"Francine!" Firekeeper waved. "We is watching 'holovision'," that last word was pronounced somewhat hesitantly.

"Are you a new student too?" asked Tahiri, rubbing at a smudge of dirt on her left foot.

Francine frowned and tilted her head at the tv, which looked fairly normal and two-dimensional to her. "Holo-vision? Don't they only have that in Space Battles and Galaxy Quest?"

Which really, just elicited another yelp out of Firekeeper- and a growl out of Blind Seer- because furniture wasn't supposed to talk.

But then, the strange gray box made noise... maybe furniture here did talk.

"How that is done?" she demanded of Dor.

"I could tell you were just asking." Tahiri gave the newcomer an odd look.

"How are they making pictures move?" Firekeeper questioned. "Is magic?"

"Is only third day in this place, so very short time," Firekeeper explained.

"I've been here for a couple of years, since September 2006," Naomi said, "I'm Naomi Wildman by the way,"

"Oh. Sorry," Dor apologized. "That's just me. I make inanimate objects talk. It's my talent."
