Hallways, Tuesday late morning

Ino was having a birthday party tonight and Amber was throwing it for her. Thus, she declared this by stating it in purple marker on white copy paper, and started taping up the copies on each floor. She didn't have time to make fancy posters or anything considering this was very much impromptu.


BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR INO!
TONIGHT IN THE 5TH FLOOR COMMON ROOM!
COME HAVE CAKE AND WISH HER HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Ichigo didn't so much notice the girl as he noticed the poster when he made his way back from breakfast. There was only one thing he could say in response, really. "Crap."

Amber glanced over at him, and thought she understood just what that 'crap' meant. "Didn't know, uh?"

"No!" he said instantly, glaring at the poster. "Isn't that supposed to come like three weeks beforehand so I have time to flail about and forget again five times before it actually happens?"

He was sure there was some rule about that somewhere. There had to be.

"Usually, uh-huh," replied Amber, unphased by his glaring temper. "But I just found out too; not like Ino announced her birthday to everyone, you know? So it's an impromotu party." A beat. "You'll be there, right?"

"Yeah." Somehow he doubted he'd live if he wasn't. "So does she know there's a party?" He paused. "And ideas for a gift?"

He tried to think about what Ino liked. Shirts were the only things that came to mind.

"She does," Amber said with a slight nose wrinkle. "It was unavoidable as I ran into her at the Perk earlier this morning. She mentioned it was her birthday and I flipped. She's one of my best friends so I had to do something, you know?" She shrugged a little. "She loves plants. And..." seriously, Amber didn't know, "...girly stuff."

Okay. Ino might not like girly stuff, but it amused Amber to say it.

Amber grinned. "I gave you other ideas," she pointed out. "You just have to pick one. It's not too terribly hard. Oh, she might like a fuzzy blanket." Because Amber knew she would. What girl wouldn't like a fuzzy warm blanket?

For one second Ichigo imagined himself buying Ino a fuzzy blanket. Then tried to imagine Ino's reaction. "You're just making up stuff."

That was hard not to know. Considering she risked some sort of branch growing up her nose if she overslept. "She has a lot of them, though."

Well, Amber actually had a coupon for the spa. But she wasn't about to hand it over. She could be selfish like that.
