Dorm Roof [Monday Evening]

Hannibal was carrying a box of pizza (you didn't want him to cook, it would be bad) and some sodas when he made his way up to the top of the roof. He'd been here recently but he'd been a girl. He preferred being a guy.

He set the pizza and drinks down and wandered over near the edge, peering out and waiting for his company.

[Hannibal's here for someone but it's an open roof and Hannibal's available before his date gets there! ETA: WTF WEARING A BOX OF PIZZA. Oh, Mondays.]

Alice had, herself, not visited the roof very recently. She had been a boy, and that had been a curious experience. Not unpleasant, but she was relieved to be Alice-shaped once more. For very specific definitions of Alice.

She stepped out onto the roof, smiling at her male-shaped-once-more date. "I should hope you're not planning on jumping," she said. "You'd take quite a tumble."

"Not thinking about that today," he said, smiling over his shoulder. "First, I'd make sure I'd grown wings or had a rocket pack or something."

"A parachute of some variety," she laughed. "A large enough skirt will do it, though woe betide your modesty should anyone see."

"If I have to wear a skirt, it's not gonna be big and poofy," he said, turning around. "No modesty for me."

She walked closer, peering down over the edge with amusement. "Then you may well be doomed," she said. "Though I think the landing may be soft enough. Or perhaps we take the less adventurous route of staying on the roof for the entirety of our date."

"That would be the most logical course of action," Hannibal agreed. "I brought pizza that I'm not WEARING."

"I brought music," she said, holding up a small portable radio. "And a few CDs. I warn you, they heavily lean to the early parts of the alphabet. I'm rather a novice to modern music."

"That's a lovely suit. Is it Papa John's?"

"As long as it's not opera," he said. "That just makes my ears wave a white flag of surrender."

"No opera," Alice said, trying her very best innocent expression. "I do believe there's some chamber music, a few marching band numbers, and one CD entitled Sounds of the Rainforest that I believe should be especially interesting."

"Diverse selection," he said and snickered. "Not what's in my collection but I'm always open to new things. I've never danced to Sounds of the Rainforest."

Alice was failing miserably at keeping a straight face. "There may also be a Gregorian Chant CD if you play your cards correctly. No promises."

"I don't even know what that is," Hannibal admitted. "Buncha guys name Greg chanting?"

Alice laughed. "Monks, I think," she said. "In Latin, with no music to it at all. And now you'll be terribly disappointed when I tell you that I brought Frou Frou and Zero 7."

Separately. She didn't have a CD of them playing some sort of musical duel. Although that did sound like it would be interesting.

Hannibal's eyes glazed over at the description before he came back to himself at names he actually recognized.

"They're not...Gorgian chanting, are they?" Hannibal asked, butchering the word.

"That depends," Alice said, leaning up slightly -- she was terribly forward, these days. "Entirely on how nice you think it is, that we're on another date."

"I think it's very nice," he said and grinned. "Even nicer because I got to wear my normal clothes and didn't have to shave anything but my face."

"Have you ever been tempted to shave your facial hair into patterns?" she asked. "Checkerboard or little stars and hearts? I don't believe I would be able to resist, were I male for more than one day."

"I've resisted so far," he said and rubbed his chin. "Mostly because I'm afraid of slipping and totally wrecking the pattern."

"Conveniently, should you mess up entirely, you could shave all of it and wait for new growth to try again," she grinned. "What sort of pizza did you get?"

Alice's conversations didn't bother much with pesky things like 'segues.'

"Pepperoni and sausage," Hannibal said and then winced. "You're not a vegetarian, are you?"

"No, indeed," she laughed. "I would give up vegetables before I gave up meat. A meatarian, perhaps. You know, the view here is rather nice. And much improved from the night we watched the volcano and hoped we weren't doomed."

"Volcano?" Hannibal asked, opening up the top of the box and reaching for some plates. "I think I missed that."

Alice was going to spare a moment in setting up the CD player while he dealt with the pizza. "While the island was traveling this summer," she explained. "We stopped near another island, very pretty, and discovered it to be an active volcano. There were storms, and just as the volcano began to erupt, the island whisked us away again. Convenient, having the island guard against things like that, unless the timing was coincidental."

"Well, that's..." He trailed off. "Huh. I've never seen a volcano before except in like movies and stuff. Sure the real thing's better."

"In the movies, it would smell far more pleasant," Alice frowned. "There was a lingering air of sulfur and massive storms. Pretty, but I'd pass up the chance to see it in person again, I'm afraid."
