Dorm Roof [Monday Evening]

Hannibal was carrying a box of pizza (you didn't want him to cook, it would be bad) and some sodas when he made his way up to the top of the roof. He'd been here recently but he'd been a girl. He preferred being a guy.

He set the pizza and drinks down and wandered over near the edge, peering out and waiting for his company.

[Hannibal's here for someone but it's an open roof and Hannibal's available before his date gets there! ETA: WTF WEARING A BOX OF PIZZA. Oh, Mondays.]

Hannibal's eyes glazed over at the description before he came back to himself at names he actually recognized.

"They're not...Gorgian chanting, are they?" Hannibal asked, butchering the word.

"That depends," Alice said, leaning up slightly -- she was terribly forward, these days. "Entirely on how nice you think it is, that we're on another date."

"I think it's very nice," he said and grinned. "Even nicer because I got to wear my normal clothes and didn't have to shave anything but my face."

"Have you ever been tempted to shave your facial hair into patterns?" she asked. "Checkerboard or little stars and hearts? I don't believe I would be able to resist, were I male for more than one day."

"I've resisted so far," he said and rubbed his chin. "Mostly because I'm afraid of slipping and totally wrecking the pattern."

"Conveniently, should you mess up entirely, you could shave all of it and wait for new growth to try again," she grinned. "What sort of pizza did you get?"

Alice's conversations didn't bother much with pesky things like 'segues.'

"Pepperoni and sausage," Hannibal said and then winced. "You're not a vegetarian, are you?"

"No, indeed," she laughed. "I would give up vegetables before I gave up meat. A meatarian, perhaps. You know, the view here is rather nice. And much improved from the night we watched the volcano and hoped we weren't doomed."

"Volcano?" Hannibal asked, opening up the top of the box and reaching for some plates. "I think I missed that."

Alice was going to spare a moment in setting up the CD player while he dealt with the pizza. "While the island was traveling this summer," she explained. "We stopped near another island, very pretty, and discovered it to be an active volcano. There were storms, and just as the volcano began to erupt, the island whisked us away again. Convenient, having the island guard against things like that, unless the timing was coincidental."

"Well, that's..." He trailed off. "Huh. I've never seen a volcano before except in like movies and stuff. Sure the real thing's better."

"In the movies, it would smell far more pleasant," Alice frowned. "There was a lingering air of sulfur and massive storms. Pretty, but I'd pass up the chance to see it in person again, I'm afraid."

"So would I," he said and offered her a plate. "I guess it's good it didn't erupt onto the island. That'd been a mess."

Aha. The CD player was set up and now Alice was going to sit for pizza, taking the plate and smiling. "Would have been rather hot, I daresay," she said. "Though not for very long."

"I prefer my hot to be metaphorical," he said and winked. "And maybe a little literal. Not so literal taht I need to wear SPF 50 gazillion, though."

"I think I would have foregone the sunscreen in favor of an asbestos suit," Alice laughed. "The weather's far warmer here in Virginia than I had realized it would be. Which is why it's convenient that clothing has adapted accordingly. I should like to burn that pinafore, at times."

"Pinafore?" Hannibal asked. "Sorry, not too hip some types of clothes."

"They aren't hip in the least," Alice grinned, taking a bite from her slice of pizza. "I promise I shall show you, at some point, though I may point to it in my closet rather than model it. A dress, knee-length, with an apron of sorts over it. Modern clothes are rather more comfortable."

"Ah, sounds...uncomfortable," he said and laughed. "I prefer the jeans and t-shirt approach. Good for all weather conditions."

"I'm rather fond of them myself," she smiled. "Running, jumping, chasing after things: all of those are far more difficult in a skirt."

"Skirts do have some benefits," he said and smirked. "Especially...shorter than knee length skirts but that's just a personal preference."

The flush was creeping into her cheeks again. "I'm afraid mine was just past the knees, with starchy layers underneath. Very nice for showing off one's boots. I've switched mostly to more practical, boring shoes, to go with the rest of my wardrobe, but I do miss those boots."

Knee-high, high-heeled, and tightly laced. Very good for planting in the middle of a card guard while brandishing a knife.

"Were they ass kicking boots?" Hannibal wondered. "I got a pair of those."

Alice beamed. "They were," she said. "Are, I should say, they're still safely in my closet. Black, laced to the knee, with heels on them. Likely to make one feel dangerous, terribly useful in a fight. Are yours black? It would be hard to have one's boots feel properly fight-worthy, were they fuschia."

"Mine are tan, actually," he said, nodding. "I used them more for working outside back home, hauling things, yard work. And I kicked a few asses with them."
