Fourth Floor Common Room [Saturday Afternoon]

There wasn't much to do in his room. Weekends were nice but they could be kind of boring if he left himself think about it. So, he'd gamely foregone another nap to come down to the common room and prop himself up on one of the chairs.

If he was gonna be bored, he could do it where there was some form of entertainment. There was television, potato chips and that was all he really needed to cure some of his boredom.

[Open CR, of course!]

"I don't believe I've ever spent any time around cats or dogs," she admitted. "Well, I hadn't spent time around horses either until the other day."

"The priests frowned on anything frivolous that would take one away from studying the word of Uquar or learning everything one could about the Wider Times," Helen said a little darkly. "I mostly made due with spiders and rats. Though none were really what you could call pets. They were just there and they made me feel less lonely."

She smiled at him. "Aren't pets supposed to stay with you, though? These didn't. They just... were sometimes there. But they did make me feel better. Jamie always used to -"

"Eh... doesn't matter."

"Is. Was. The only one I ever really had," Helen said. "He's bound now though, to always wander the worlds, never stopping, never aging. So that we can all be free."

She nodded. "But he was just a boy. He shouldn't have had to lose everything like that."

"We killed them all," she said almost proudly. "Or nearly so. They won't be back. But just in case... Jamie is there."

"Which is more than I have," she agreed. "Yes. And he chose it."

"You are very kind," she said, "and I am not kind at all. It is a... stopgap here, which I am trying to make the best of. But it will all be fine, I'm sure."

"Honesty is not a problem for me," she admitted a little ruefully.

"It might be nicer to have friends. But..." she shrugged. "It seems not to be my way. I'll make do with the spiders and rats."

She shrugged again, trying to cover her unease. "There are people I know and am friendly with, but... no. Not really. I don't seem to have the knack, it seems."

"Someone... someone you can laugh and joke with," she said hesitantly. "Someone you can talk freely with. Someone you can go to if you are having a difficult time and they make you feel better."
