Fourth Floor Common Room [early afternoon]

It was rare that Aravis should bestir herself again before noon on weekends, after she'd taken care of Trenor, and today was no exception.

However, bad habits like sleeping in late didn't necessarily preclude a desire for breakfast-like foods, and gods help her, Aravis was learning how to cook.

Which was why the common room found her carefully making pancakes in the early afternoon, her hair down and out of its usual plaits, her jewelry and kohl absent, and her bodice loosely laced. Saturdays were meant for being lazy, and she intended to do just that. Though, of course, she would willingly share her pancakes, lumpy and misshapen (though otherwise good, thank you) though they were. She had tea, too, but given how strongly she made it, she suspected that would be rather less popular.

[omg come keep me awake. I've been up since ridiculous o'clock. Stupid teacher certification.]

"I can only imagine," Cal replied. "All those tears shed for what? Vibrant golden sunsets over calm seas? Boyfriend not complimenting that half and inch you got trimmed from your hair? Socks not quite the same color when they come out of the wash...."

"Awww," another chuckled slipped out of Cal, "but freckles are cute."

"Well," Cal said with an authoritative sip of his milk, "your weekendly tragic self was silly, then."

Although he figured Aravis already knew that.

"I was my own grandfather last weekend," Cal threw out quickly, because he was still pretty proud of that one. "And, oh, the ponies. That was my first big thing, I think."

"Time machine," Cal explained. "Fling with a young and extremely fertile version of my grandmother. Extremely, considering how I'm actually unable to reproduce."

"Thanks," Cal said, nodding his head gratefully for the comment, and wondering what Aravis would think if he told her the rest of what he'd done that weekend. "No offense, that I have to agree that it's better than sitting in my room and crying over my freckles."

"Clearly," Cal agreed with a nod. "Did you get hit by any of the rocks and turn a color on Thursday?"

"Luckily," Cal said, straightening his shoulders a little, "I make a dashing figure completely in blue."

"It was!" Cal did a poor job of pretending to be offended; it was impossible to be too offended when a pretty girl was laughing at your jokes instead of just staring at you like you were a weirdo. "It matched by eyes!"
