3rd Floor Common Room: Monday Evening [10-20-08]

Peyton had the TV on, but really wasn't paying much attention to it. She was sketching furiously, trying to put it on paper rather than leave it inside. which meant her art wasn't particularly lighthearted.

She'd probably be glad of a distraction and there was lots of fresh coffee on.

[Open as common rooms are.]

Dick needed some light and fluffy common room excitement to ease his mind in preparation for the weekend.

"Hey, Peyton," he said, grabbing a cup of coffee. "What's going on? Anything exciting, light, and fluffy?"

"How about exciting?" Dick said. "Hitting .333 in baseball is considered a success, so I'm shooting for that."

"That depends on what kind of angst it is," Dick said. "Certain kinds can definitely be dramatic enough to count."

Dick felt that this was sufficiently exciting angst. His batting average was satisfied.

"If it helps, I haven't left the room. It's not much, but it's a start, right?" Dick was trying a mixture of half-joking and half-trying to be comforting that worked pretty well on Bruce Wayne. If it worked on him, it was worth a shot here.

"I've already made a baseball analogy. I'm willing to try to catch things," Dick said. "I just wish I had my mitt on me."

"Thanks, I appreciate it," Dick said. "If you were going to look for your mother, do you know how you'd go about it? Sometimes even just figuring that kind of stuff can help."

Dick had to admit, he had thought the thing about making people leave was just figurative language. That showed him that he shouldn't assume. "Never's a long time. People can change their minds a lot before never is over."

"Oh," Dick said. "If you don't mind me asking, why wouldn't you want to see her again before you didn't have a choice in the matter?"

"If it were me, I'd probably look for her. A big part of that would be just to shock her, though," Dick said. "But it's just hypothetical for me. It sounds like a tough decision. I don't envy you."
